The Sylvania SY1022 Weatherproof Color Video Security Camera is ideal for indoor or outdoor applications. With a built-in microphone on the camera allowing for listen-in audio, the Sylvania SY1022 is a good basic addition to any compatible observation system from home monitoring applications to office or business security surveillance.

The 01680's utilizes a color CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) image sensor with a 3.7mm fixed-focus lens, and achieves a horizontal resolution of 240 TVL (TV lines). Constructed of durable ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic, the SY1022 is ideal for outdoor use with a weather-proof housing. Easy to install, this unit mounts on walls or ceilings and connects to most any standard TV, VCR, or closed-circuit television system with A/V inputs. Sensitive enough for very low-light conditions, this unit has a minimum illumination of 0.1 Lux, and an operating temperature of 14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. The SY1022 includes standard BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) outputs for video, and a 63-foot connecting cable and power adapter. Users should note that the CMOS image sensor in this camera may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.

I have added 3 of these cameras, as well as 2 Swann Bulldog, and 2 Q-See night vision cameras and 1 Q-See dome camera. These cameras are very good for daylight viewing, with no real night/low-light capability. The picture is not quite as sharp as the Swann Bulldogs, but they are very good for the price. Stay away from the Q-See products. The Q-See cameras have very grainy, fuzzy, washed-out pictures. I'm using 2 Q-See capture cards, which work well. I recommend these for cameras for daylight conditions, but if you want to spend a little more, the Swann Bulldogs have night vision capability as well.

Since we have installed these on the outside of our building and made them noticeable transients have stopped haranguing our customers. Easy to setup and have not had any problems in a high rain enviroment besides some fogging.
