This review is from: Sylvania ZC350SL8 DVD Recorder with Built In Tuner (Electronics)
I do a lot of recording and editing. I've only had it a few months and have made over 200 recordings with it. I run 4 other recorders as well. One of the main reasons I bought this was for the tuner which I like very much. And it's getting hard to find them with the actual twin cable hook ups in the back. This was a must have feature for me. Also I needed a slim line unit which this is.
A very nice feature is the cooling fan in the back. You don't see that much anymore. And although they tell you to never stack your components because of the heat. Well, lets just say I stack my components. And this circulates the air around all my equipment not just the Sylvania. It records and plays back very well. I however prefere to use my 3 Sony's because they have 2 more recording speeds than Sylvania. But, that is normal. Sony as far as I know are the only ones that offer the 2 more record speeds. All other units offer the same record modes since they became the standard. But, a flex recorder is king. The remote is pretty generic. And it's the reason I did not give it 5 stars. Not a real big deal. But, like I said I use and edit constantly. So, it'll not be a big deal for most. I can record on this unit and edit on my Sony which is very nice. And I can title my play lists on either unit as well. For me however I prefere to use the sony to name the titles. It's just easier. The sylvania you have to use the lettered remote to write the titles. So if you do a lot of texting then that would be a plus for you. But, all & all this is a solid unit. I've already used it more and put more time on it sometime running it day and nite and when I'm not home. So it should be fine for the average user. I'll put it to you this way. It wouldn't stop me from buying this very same unit again should anything happen to the one I am running now |
