3.0 out of 5 stars Dream a little dream of me
Sylvia gives her interpretation of dreams in general - from our screaming nightmares to running on a sun-kissed beach. If you want a simple explanation of what did last nights dream mean, this isn't the book for you. I like it, but most of my questions still aren't answered.

This review is from: Sylvia Browne's Book of Dreams (Hardcover)
I was a bit skeptical at first but I found this to be interesting. While I don't find myself "travelling to the Other Side" often when I dream, I found her explanations plausible. And I definitely agree with her assessment that dream dictionaries are fine, but a symbol in a dream may mean something entirely different to each individual. I liked her "dividing" dreams into five types, including prophetic dreams, an informational or problem-solving dream, and astral visits.

Sylvia goes into detail to describe each of these "dream types," and points out in our society people don't give enough credit to dreams. She does spend a chapter describing dream symbols, and it's as good a "dream dictionary" as any I've seen.

She also describes ways to make a dream (especially a bad one) end differently by "telling yourself" it's only a dream and to "choose" a different ending to a recurring bad dream.

I felt Sylvia did a very good job in describing dreams and what they mean or may not mean. Several dream books I've skimmed through seem to follow a "template" of sorts in trying to explain what your dreams mean. And Sylvia went out of her way to do the opposite in explaining dreams.

I'm glad I took the time to read this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting information on what our dreams mean, February 9, 2003

This review is from: Sylvia Browne's Book of Dreams (Hardcover)
This is the second book I've read by Sylvia Browne. I enjoy her insights and the information about dreams, life after death, astral visits, etc. I am always interested in reading spirituality books, and I found this book of dreams very enlightening.

I have recently read "What Dreams May Come" by Richard Matheson about life after death, and what I found interesting was that his book was written in the late 70's and a lot of Browne's facts/theories in her book match with what Matheson wrote about in his fictional love story. (The Hall of Wisdom, Working plateaus, etc).

There were still a few times while reading "Book of Dreams" where I had to really shake my head and wonder, "Wow, is she for real??" But I kept reading and I think the ideas and theories do make some sense. Since her theories are hard to prove, our faith and beliefs are what spirituality is all about. I enjoy Browne and her books, and I rate this read a 4 out of 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Enlightening!!!!!!!!, January 5, 2004

This review is from: Sylvia Browne's Book of Dreams (Hardcover)
I have to admit, I was afraid to start reading Sylvia's books in the beginning. Being raised Southern Baptist, I was taught from childhood that anything of this nature was strictly forbidden. Since I finally (thank God!) decided to open my mind and my heart, I have found a wealth of comfort, peace, and even confirmation. So many references in her books spark me to realize that I've known and believed this my whole life, but was afraid to question it, and ignorant as to how to put it into words. What a beautiful knowledge that there really is a Mother God and she loves us eternally and unconditionally! Astral catelepsy is something that I've experienced since early childhood, but never knew what it was. My brother is the only other person I know that has experienced it as well. I was so happy to read in this book that it's not death knocking at the door! Now that I know what it is, I have no more reason to be afraid of it. This book, along with every other book I've read of hers is definitely one that I would recommend to anyone! A must read!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars How to make dream intrepretation easy., July 11, 2003
By
This review is from: Sylvia Browne's Book of Dreams (Hardcover)
Okay, I have to admit up front, I'm a Sylvia Browne freak. I loved all her books and how much she helps people when they are having difficulties in life.

(The reviewer that gave her "predictions" in a general broad manner to critique Sylvia, was even funny because she showed how general preditions are not much help at all and not even worth reading hers or anyone else's was great in justaposition to true psychics such as Sylvia and James Van Praagh. I just hope she doesn't quit her day job to become a "psychic"-hahaha)

But back to her book, Sylvia is far more skilled, and even though she does not have advanced degrees in psychology or psychiatry (which may even be an asset), she does a truly fantastic job in categorizing the types of dreams you may have (both recurring and nonrecurring)into 5 basic types, and then does a truly wonderful job of discussing how you can best further analyze a troubling or mystifying dream you have had to your benefit. (Freud, on the other hand, and others who have all the PhD's seem to complicate the matter of dream interpretation far beyond the average person's ken.)

In any case, Sylvia does give specific techniques for analyzing and understanding dreams, and even getting rid of nightmares and upsetting dreams that aren't there to help us.

She also gives numerous life examples of how properly analyzing the dream can help us in our daily lives or help us dispel fears and misunderstandings when we just take some time to properly put an annoying dream in perspective.

If you are interested in what dreams mean in a simplfied form, and how you can learn some simple techiques to learn from the information which is being relayed to you in your dreams, this book indeed is a well written, easy to understand and helpful guide. It is very practical and not at all scientific, and it is based on intuition and belief, written by someone who is extraordinarily intuitive and sensitive.

This book is just one more lesson in how we can use our angels and spirit guides to open up our hearts to loving messages we can receive from the other side which will help us immensely in our daily lives.

Wow! This book is her best yet. I found this to be the most comprehensive and fascinating book on dreams and dream interpretation that I've ever read. I've already recommended the book to several friends and family members, and it has been the topic of conversation on more than one occasion with my friends. Keep writing, Sylvia!

This review is from: Sylvia Browne's Book of Dreams (Hardcover)
No, this book doesn't put you to sleep..! Sylvia discusses various forms of dreams and how they effect our lives and also how we can deal with them. Various forms from lurid, astral to prophetic Sylvia has examined and answered a multiple of questions from people over the years asking about dreams. Her ability to look in to the information and decipher the meaning was Sylvia at her best. I liked her subject dealing with deceased loved ones coming into communication during our sleep which is very fulfilling and informative. Like all of Sylvia's work this book is very well done and enjoyable to read. I always find out more about myself when I read her books and look forward to further publications from her!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, July 28, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I will make this fast. This was my first Sylvia Browne Book and it had me hooked. I was excited every chance that i got to read it. It opened a few things up about dreams that i've had for years and some i've had as a child. She does not give you direct interpretation of every thing you dream but makes you find your own meaning after all we are all different. Boy some things that she stated hit me pretty hard, how i could have missed that myself. It really helped me see what my mind was telling me subconsciously in my dreams ~ and what i need to do to fix that. Now when people ask me what their dreams mean it's still hard to interpret them but it has become somewhat easier.

A book that I would recommend to anyone wondering what they are
dreaming about. I had quite a few "ahaa" moments while reading this book. Well written and lots of example dreams to help you
decipher your own. Thank you to Sylvia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sylvia's Best, November 15, 2002
This review is from: Sylvia Browne's Book of Dreams (Hardcover)
This is the best book on dreams and dreaming I have ever encountered. Even readers who don't believe in Sylvia Browne and her psychic powers and esoteric philosophy will enjoy the majority of this book, for it contains a lot of sensible, practical insights into the psychology of the subconscious mind. Try it, and just skip the "non-scientific" parts if you wish; you will definitely get a lot of fascinating, useful information from reading this book.
