Sylvia, is by far my absolute favorite vocalist of all time. Sadly, I feel she's the most underrated in the history of singers. I don't think
I could put into words how much I've missed her releasing new albums, singles and videos all these years.

I like any CD/album that contains her beautiful singing. However, this particular album was a huge disappointment. After all, these days
"Greatest Hits" collections most always contain so many more tracks along with previously un-released ones. I think the track sequence, with just these nine, could have been planned out better too. Another thing that is upsetting about it. Sylvia was due to release a new album entitled "Knockin' Around" in the fall of 1986. This exact CD cover was featured as the cover art on the show "New Country" that she was performing songs from on TNN. Unfortunately, the first single, "Nothin'
Ventured Nothin' Gained" failed to become a top 10 hit and RCA shelved that album and instead decided to release this in the spring/summer of
1987. What was RCA thinking?? Even after all this time, I still feel sad and disappointed about that whole fiasco!

Well, trying to look on the bright side... At least we got one song from that unreleased "Knockin' Around" album back then. Which is her wonderful rendition of "Never My Love". Sylvia's clear, sweet, mesmerizing voice and that song alone deserves 5 stars. As most of you know "Never My Love" along with 23 other awesome tracks were included on her "Anthology" CD released in 1997. Which, is by far the BEST Sylvia compilation to date!!!

Anyhow, my other favorite tracks on this disappointingly track-lacking collection... are "Tumbleweed", "Fallin' In Love" and "Sweet Yesterday".

During the 1980s, Sylvia was one of country music's most popular female singers, racking up more than ten top-ten singles on the country chart, as well as several others breaking into the top-forty.

So after five studio albums with RCA, a greatest hits compilation was due, but fans of Sylvia must have been left scratching their heads in puzzlement upon this album's release. Only nine tracks appeared on the record, two of which were entirely new songs, leaving only seven songs actually qualifying for a greatest hits collection. Sure, there's "Nobody", Sylvia's signature #1 hit along with her other chart-topping song "Drifter". But there are some other favorites notably absent from the track listing. Missing are "Like Nothing Ever Happened", "I Never Quite Got Back (From Loving You)", "The Matador", and "Heart on the Mend", all of which achieved top-ten status. Also not included was "I Love You by Heart", a hit duet with Michael Johnson.

To be fair though, some of Sylvia's other greatest-hit repertoire did make it onto this collection, such as "Snapshot", "Cry Just a Little Bit", and "Fallin' in Love".

Supposedly, RCA had originally planned to issue a new Sylvia album titled "Knockin' Around" containing entirely all new song selections, but opted at the last moment to put out this "best of" LP instead.

But again, only nine tracks total? Surely there was more room to tack on a few more of Sylvia's hit tunes.

For a more comprehensive collection of Sylvia's greatest hit catalog, look for her "Anthology" CD, although you might have to do a little scouting around to find it, for the disc is now out of print.

This is a VERY GOOD CD!!! But for those who are BIGGER Sylvia fans this is a Very nice sampler CD. But for those who want a BIGGER Greatest Hits CD I would recommend Sylvia's Anthology CD with 24 songs on it. It has all of these songs and MORE!!!

This is another one of those cds that only have 9 songs on it. And for a Greatest Hits cd there are a few songs that aren't on here that should be. Matador, Heart On The Mend, Sweet Yesterday, Like Nothing Ever Happened, I Never Quite Got Back, I Love You By Heart. There are enough songs that were left off of this to almost have a volulme 2 of Greatest Hits. It does have Nobody. Which you couldn't have a Sylvia Greatest Hits without. It has her first couple of hits Tumbleweed and Drifter. Which were kind of both Western themed. She does a very good version of Never My Love which at the time was a new song. The only other person I have ever heard sing that was Vern Gosden who had already had a hit with it. I think that her version is better. And it has Snapshot. Which basically has the same arangement as Nobody. The same song but with different words. This is a Greatest Hits with her hits. Just not enough of them. And would the entire album of Drifter please be released on cd.

The title song, "Nobody" is, really, the only song that grabbed me. I think that was her one, and only, major hit to entertainment. I think what got me more was the photo of her and the low cut blouse. Which just goes to show that sex DOES sell.
