5.0 out of 5 stars Bring a Fishing Rod Taped to your Golf Driver, January 1, 2010

What could be more fun than standing outside in the freezing cold watching a seven-year old ignoring the same, as you watch his joy at setting a helicopter so high, and flying it so close to the apartment building that you start to panic that it will land on the roof six stories up, or land on someone's window air conditioner, where you will be unable to retrieve it.

Being of the masculine persuasion (we don't need no stinkin' directions), we watched the helicopter whirl around the entrance way going no higher than my knee cap to the amusement of passersby, until it ran out of battery power. Undaunted, little Patrick brought the helicopter back in to power up, so we could try again. I was discouraged at his resolve.

The second time was more fruitful, as we realized that the remote had an antenna that when extended, extended the range and height of the Mosquito dramatically. This little Mossie looked like one in the gathering dusk with its colored lights that dimmed as it ascended each story of the building faster than the elevator could ever hope to carry human cargo. At the summit of six stories, I was afraid that it would fly over the roof, but Patrick was smarter than that. Why not make old Ed, have to fetch the helo from an evergreen tree that was planted as a windbreak, and secondarily as a toy trap?! (That's where the title comes in). By the third trip to the frosty outdoors, the pole had become part of the operation.

This little gem provides hours of fun, but not all at once, as it will need recharging using a wall outlet. The remote requires six AA batteries that recharges it in less than an hour, although we didn't really keep track. The little mite was able to operate the two toggles, one for direction and one for height, while I was scratching my head. Colored lights of red and silver add a magic to the toy, especially at dusk. It is made of a durable plastic, as this particular model hit brick, auto metal, asphalt and concrete many times over, and continued to buzz furiously. It will also provide mirth and giggles to passerbys who watch a 59 year old man holding an improvised pole and lantern, being given instructions by a seven-year old on how to get it out of evergreen. But that's what Christmas is all about. And that's what the three kings brought to the baby Jesus, gold, frankencense and mirth.

It is actually safe for indoor use, but it is not recommended for use inside an Embassy Suites hotel. It doesn't come with a 12-foot bamboo pole either, which is highly recommended.

Happy New Year!

This helicopter was well-worth the price. The engineering of the props is better than the air hogs. I wouldn't say this is easy to fly. If you're experienced with the air hogs you'll find this a lot easier. Two complaints: The batteries were expensive (6 c batteries and 1 9volt). ALso, it only holds a charge for about 10 minutes. The air hogs hold their charge for a longer period of time but they aren't as advanced as far as engineering.
