If it doesn't work right out of the box, put everything back together and ship it back and order another.

Build quality is good but whether it works or not out of the box seems to be another issue. Obviously these are not tested at the factory before being shipped and at this price point, there are going to be some issues. Syma is a Chinese company, the product is built in China and as soon as you see the "instructions" you'll realize there haven't been any native English speakers involved with this product. Bottom line on quality is - buy it from Amazon (where it is actually fulfilled by Amazon) as the return policy is no questions asked. If it doesn't work right out of the box, put everything back together and ship it back and order another. Most off Amazon retailers won't take it back once the box has been opened so basically you get no warranty.

Lots of folks seem to have issues with the transmitter/receiver. Assuming they aren't both DOA, it is really critical to do two things: Sync the transmitter to the receiver as instructed - it's just turning on the transmitter and throwing the left stick all the way forward and back down a couple times. At this point, you should have a solid green light on the transmitter. Put the copter down on a LEVEL surface, turn it on and when the light on the receiver board stops flashing, the gyros are synced. This is why a level surface is so critical - the gyros will sync to just about any angle but it then thinks it's level. If it's synced and not level, it's going to immediately tilt upon trying to lift off and possible take out your blades.

Flying in a breeze is a breeze if you do one simple modification - add nose weight. People seem to think the rear rotor is propelling the copter forward and that it's not big enough or powerful enough to overcome a light breeze. That's not how it works.

Let's start off by saying that this is the first outdoor RC helicopter I've owned. However I have a small fleet of indoor RC's, including 3 S107G's which is what the S031G is modeled after. The gyro is incredible, as is the super easy trim dial. Despite the fact that I broke the upper blade grip the first time out (hit the only metal light pole in 1000ft radius), I'd say this is a VERY durable little machine. The main rotor blades are strong -- too strong. My local hobby guy had the part in stock. However, while examining it he noticed that I have the old style battery rather than the new LiPo battery which explains the 75 - 90 min. charging time. The new LiPo is one of the improvements supposedly made to the "G" model. At least I still get an honest 10-15 minutes per charge. Speaking of "power" the S031G is extremely underpowered by design, when facing even the slightest headwind. It's got OK lift, but the horizontal tail rotor blade is too small or needs to be completely redesigned. I'm NOT talking about gusty 10-15 mph winds, mind you, I'm talking about breezes, maybe 5-7 mph. Lift is good but I found that hand launching greatly increased my flying time. Once in the air using the power to move against slight headwinds will get you into trouble if you don't have enough practice. The S031G likes to fly high -- and it will if you aren't careful. I try not to exceed 20ft because of the forward thrust problem. However, I've gotten it well over 150ft when I realized I might be in trouble and panicked, cut the power too much, and still landed right on the skids. I would really like to see a redesigned version of this model that provides adequate forward thrust for general flying conditions. I feel the S031G is a helicopter with a lot of potential, but falls short because of it's inability to fly properly in most useable conditions. I'd sure love to fly it in a big empty warehouse!

Very solid piece of flying equipment. The gyro system is top-notch and only requires VERY minor trimming out of the box! Maiden flight was in a small kitchen area and stuck the landing perfectly! This model is the absolute, by far, the best I've used for beginner / advanced-beginner training. With such stable flight, you can really put the craft through the paces and focus less on over- / under-controlling the flight path. Pros: stabilized elevation stick, durable heli body with forgiving rotors, easy to set up and start flying, very responsive to all stick movements, VERY inexpensive replacement parts are available, and can move very fast when placed in the tail rotor 'boost' mode. Cons: wish it had the 4th channel for even further advanced training just short of moving to single-rotor equipment. Overall - couldn't be happier!

It's not as big as I thought, but that's the only negative. It's a little scary first time you take it out if your used to the smaller ones. It's so much faster and more responsive. I work at an ambulance station and everyone there has flown this thing, easy learning curve, very durable. Multiple crashes of different heights and she still flies. One drop after hitting a power-line and falling from that height. You should probably get extra blades, after a few crashes the blades are getting pretty beat up. They look easy to change with a simple screwdriver. I only buy Syma RC helicopters, they are always good. As with all helicopters, watch out for that wind!

Update, after about a week it got caught on some grass on takeoff and one of the rotors broke. Luckily parts are very cheap and easy to come by here on Amazon. It's easy to fix. Buy some extra batteries for more fly time, also easy to get and cheap. I get about 10-15 min on a 1 1/2 hour charge.
