A fairly good fire wall, with some bugs.and a power hog.,

I find that the norton 2006 slows the machine down considerably. The easy configeration programing may open port 1024 to allow access of stealth net spy, when you try to send a fax.or print. The 2005 norton firewall blocked this threat, and warned you to keep it blocked as a severe threat...this program blocks aol music, but allows some third party programs to install without warning...Symantec tech support was as stated by my many fellow reviewers,"NOT VERY HELPFUL AT ALL" One of my 5 machines has norton 2004 antivirus, with the windows firewall. This works better than a machine that on high speed, with 120 gig hard drive and 2 gigs of memory. Why my powerful machine acts like its on dial-up,yet,the machine with older norton 2004 is faster even on dial up back-up...I have to advise everyone please dont use at this time.Stick with your older version of norton until, they can fix their software glitches.Avoid please

Dismal - No Longer a Symantec Customer,
This review is from: Norton Personal Firewall 2006 (CD-ROM)
Gave up on Norton Antivirus last year, that now includes the Firewall.
My subscription to Norton Firewall 2005 expired recently; bought the 2006 version. Oh my how things did not work after the 2006 install; how cryptic their help, that help in english (my translation) reduced to re-install not just the Norton Personal Firewall 2006; but also what Symantec termed, 'suspected other programs' on my PC not allowing Norton's firewall to work properly. Well, wrote off the cost of the Norton 2006; went with a competitor product; well rated; one install, everything worked from the get go. Bye Symantec, bye Norton..., liked you for more than a decade; but you are so abysmal now!

Norton 2006 is a Disaster,

Beware Norton 2006. I have used Norton Antivirus (and more recently Internet Security Suite) for at least 5 or 6 years. I needed to renew my Norton 2005 subscription recently, so I downloaded an upgrade to NIS 2006, paid by credit card, and started the install. Huge mistake...I should have done some internet research first. Bottom line, the installation never worked, uninstall never worked, and worse, it corrupted my registry. Finally I was forced to reinstall Windows XP and all of my major applications that write to the registry, a lengthy and frustrating process. I had tried every trick and workaround I new of or could find on the web, and I am not a novice on computer hardware and software. I then contacted Norton for a refund, followed their instructions on how to apply for it, and got no response whatsoever. After a month of repeated attempts, I then contacted my credit card company, who refunded my purchase price. As far as I know the credit card company is still battling with Norton. Norton used to be tops, but has slipped on software quality and customer service to the point that I would never recommend them until there is some serious reform. The F-Secure suite I am now running has worked perfectly from the outset, so I will probably never go back.
