I have this installed on my iBook, and will be buying it for my work machines. It works well, and I have had no problems with it.

Despite what other reviewers have said, there was a time when viruses for the Mac were extremely prevalent and were more common that PC ones. It is also beneficial to have the protection and notification when you work in a mixed...

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay Away
As a long-time satisfied NAV user on the PC side I decided to go with NAV 9 for mac with my new iBook. I have tried running the scan three times. The first two I cancelled after 3 hours without completion. The scan runs slowly but just about grinds to a halt when scanning the python files (.pyc,.pyo, etc.). I am now in the middle of my third try and after 2 1/2 hours...

The first two I cancelled after 3 hours without completion. The scan runs slowly but just about grinds to a halt when scanning the python files (.pyc,.pyo, etc.). I am now in the middle of my third try and after 2 1/2 hours it is still going. I think it is shameful that Symantec would release this product as compatible with Panther when it clearly is not. The suggestions I have gotten from Symantec tech support have been worthless!

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken (Un)installation, January 25, 2004

This review is from: Symantec Norton AntiVirus 9.0 (Macintosh) (CD-ROM)
I couldn't be more disappointed. I have installed it successfully twice in the past, but my latest effort has been nothing but disappointment. I have been working on this for a number of hours, and continually get stuck on the NAV Update, where it successfully retrieves the various update files, but can't apply the last "Virus Def" (or at least couldn't Process it in 8 hours...). Worse, is that the product refuses all attempts to uninstall itself either (Unknown errors...). So, I'm left with a newly built machine, with a non-functioning NAV which won't successfully install nor uninstall. I am quickly reaching a point where I will need to wipe this disk and reinstall OSX from stratch. An anti-virus program should not be written so poorly to have to require this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sure, but I agree with other reviewers...why?, September 19, 2004
This review is from: Symantec Norton AntiVirus 9.0 (Macintosh) (CD-ROM)
After reading a couple of reviews here about the severity of MAC threats, i went to the Symantec (Norton) site and listed all the virus threats. I went through the entire list, one at a time, and examined the OS threatened by each virus. There were three that did NOT show Macintosh in the "Systems not affected" category. But, Mac was not in the list of "Systems Affected" either. So, there are no virus threats listed on the Symantec site that affect the MAC. Doesn't mean some evil a#$hole is cooking one up as we speak. But it tells me the threat is a lot lower than it is on the PC platform....
I use Norton on my three PCs and it's kept me out of the deep end of the pool. It's not perfect, and liveupdate needs some work (does not work reliably). But in the PC world you'd be nuts not to use some protection. When I feel like I need it for the MAC, I'll use Norton. the trialware version worked fine....during the trial period.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mac Expert's opinion, July 29, 2004

I found this program to be excellent as an anti-virus program. Know it or not, the first Trojan Horse designed to attack macs has been found. V. 9.0.2 will protect your Mac against any virus you encounter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unnecessary, June 25, 2004

Sure, you can buy this software and protect your Mac, but the question is, "Why would you want to waste your money?" There has not yet been one virus written for the Macintosh. (That's right, not a single one.) And even if you download a Windows virus, it won't work, because Windows programs can't run on Macs. Also, Microsoft Word's macro system can deliver viruses, but these do not operate on the Mac, much as a Windows virus cannot operate on the Mac. Don't waste your money on a product that protects you from viruses that don't exist.
