Memphis Fuzz!,
By Kyle J. Chase (Bothell, Wa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sympathy Sessions (Audio CD)
I already had the two sympathy 10"s that this cd compiles but I couldn't resist the cover photo of the lovely starlet D'lana Tunnel. As always the Oblivians deliver the lo-fi gut-grabbin' memphis fuzz that got me into garage-rock in the first place. The music is spastic and fast as hell, I guarantee this cd will make you get down and boogie. But be careful, I usually end up breaking something whenever I pop it in!

Of course it's good.,

It's the Oblivians. There's almost no way it's gonna be bad. Probably not the best starting point for the band, and the sound is even more lo-fi than usual, but so what? It rocks. 18 songs and not a bad one amongst them- "Feel Real Good," "Five Hour Man," and "Can't Afford You" are real standouts, though.

1. If you look closely at the cover, you can see this gal's (left) nipple.
2. She's that girl from Breaking Bad who gets busy with Jesse but dies. 3. The Oblivians make it clear on "The Memphis Creep" that they don't think much of guys with beards.

make me wish that the volume dial on my stereo could go up past "10". You have to listen to this LOUD. Real fuzzed out guitar garage punk music. And a real lo-fi recording which makes it sound even raunchier. The Oblivians sound to me a lot like another great band, The Mummies, who are even more "lo-fi" than they are (but wear great Mummie costumes).
