5.0 out of 5 stars Super British Brass Band December 28, 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Hats off to Naxos for inviting the famous Black Dyke Brass Band to record for their label. Nice mix of pieces and wonderful ensemble playing. Less focus on soloists on this CD. I hope Naxos keeps it up and expands their library to include more British Brass Bands!

5.0 out of 5 stars Black Dyke knows how to do it September 5, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Many iterations with different conductors and I'm sure certain band members also in rotation, but the beat goes on after all these years. Each uptempo version gets better until the best 1812 you ever heard with cannon aplenty.

the range of musical style on this CD makes you want to listen to it over and over.
it has light music from Porgy and Bess to the power of the 1812 Overture they way only a Brass Band can play it.
in a orchestra there are only a few Brass.
in the Brass Band there are about 30 brass.
The power and majesty that the brass band can create on this piece is wonderful to hear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible performance of orchestral favorites October 19, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
When I first heard this recording on Spotify, I was immediately impressed with this CD. The performances of such favorites as Brahms Academic Festival Overture or Holst's Jupiter are stunning. Two thumbs up.
