This review is from: The Symphonies: Dreams Memories & Parties (Audio CD)
The recipe is quite simple. Take all voice aspects of Bjork, Beth Gibbons (Portishead) and sprinkle in a dash of Cat Power and you will end up with a sonically delicious Emily Wells. Now layer that on top of strings, analog beats, and the rest that is akin to the sweeping melodies of Radiohead, hints of DJ Shadow, origionality of Sigur Ros, the vast majority of which are produced by Emily herself. What you end up with is something esquisite and amazing. I love this artist, and I am a hater. Do your self a favor, check her out on youtube and you will come running back to buy everything she has ever made.

i love this cd. i got addicted to it immediately, tho i am doing better with it now.
while this is normally NOT my typical genre of music,
i love violin & it grabbed me instantly.
every single song is charming, and completely enjoyable. so creative. her voice is really odd, tho enjoyable, like bjork.
emily wells is an incredibly talented artist. if you dont like this cd,
i could not possibly understand why (maybe you suck?, i dunno).
the blend of different kinds of music & tastes make this album
refreshingly original. i listen to it while i cook, while i drive,
while i read, i just listen to it all the time. fabulous!!

One of my most listened-to albums, November 4, 2011
I wouldn't be able to choose between Beautiful Sleepyhead and the Laughing Yaks and this album, but they're very different beasts. This one is usually described as a cross between hip-hop and classical, and the mix works. The music itself is inventive and easy to get in your brain, and I have to applaud the quality of the recording as well. You can tell Emily Wells puts a lot of thought into every sound and how they all fit together. On a nice sound system, it's very fun.
