5.0 out of 5 stars Music of the spheres - Aristotle, eat your heart out
Possibly one of NASA's most avant-garde projects ever, SYMPHONIES OF THE PLANETS is a five-CD set that is now out of print. Put simply, it consists of recordings made by Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 as they passed by the various planets and moons of our solar system. Although sound as we perceive it cannot travel in the vacuum of space, each planet and moon emits its own...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting!
Ok, I'm not very smart and not a scientist but I really like these recordings cause to me they remind me of childhood, really, the "cosmic" sounds sound like, "I know that sound"...oops the advert said that! Anyway volume 1 is ok so I prefer the other volumes and planets cause they sound "jazzer"! I think Neptune and Saturn are really "hot" planets and have a nice song...

Although sound as we perceive it cannot travel in the vacuum of space, each planet and moon emits its own electromagnetic "signature" that can be picked up by the right instruments, and those emanations can be converted into sound and recorded onto compact discs for your listening enjoyment.

Of the five discs in the set, Volume 1 is my personal favorite, but all of them are definitely worth checking out. Each disc is only around 30 minutes long, but those 30 minutes are packed with cosmic ambience that is even more profound when you consider that no human artist composed this. Fans of Dr. Fiorella Terenzi's similar recordings of space will find this stuff to their liking, although a bit more "dark" and atmospheric than hers.

By all means, check it out while you have the chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS CD!!!!, September 28, 2008

This has to be the ultimate relaxation/meditation CD of all time.

I have used this CD for over ten years as I do massage (at 30 minutes per play it's perfect for timing my sessions) and every single client who has heard it has commented on how relaxing and peaceful it is.

I have also played it on my office computer in a perpetual loop during the day and find that my stress levels decrease significantly.

The gently shifting, semi-aquatic, gong-like soundscapes morph and fade from one atmosphere to the next in a hypnotic kaleidoscope of sound.

I URGE anyone who has the slightest curiosity about this CD to buy it and listen for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really cool, August 1, 2002
This review is from: Symphonies Of The Planets 1 - NASA Voyager Recordings (Audio CD)
I have to say, this CD is really wonderful for what it's meant to be. It's not a music CD, and it's not something you're likely to listen to on a daily basis. If you go in with the understanding that it's a disc full of creepy "electronic" sound, then you won't be in for any unpleasant surprises. Made from recordings of the Voyager probes, these "sounds" actually exist in the form of magnetic fields around the various planets. It's very very cool from a novelty perspective, and if you happen to like this sort of thing for meditative purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound Beyond Sound, June 8, 2010
This review is from: Symphonies Of The Planets 1 - NASA Voyager Recordings (Audio CD)
I found the complete set here at work early in my career.

All I can say is that these recordings are absolutely remarkable.

Sound, in all of its forms, is truly amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extra Terrestial Meditation, March 4, 2009

This wonderful CD can blow your mind ! Lasting about 40 minutes it provides a wonderful meditation listening to the flowing and funky sounds of the solar system from way above Earth. An easy way to "get away from it all". Hard to believe all the sounds whizzing around between your ears are naturally emitted. Beautifully mixed and produced. Now out of production this CD can be hard to find so if you locate one - grab it ! Apparently its the best one in the series produced by NASA.
