Shostakovich's Final Symphony Incomparable,
By Paul (Get to Benaroya Holl) (Seattle, Washington United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Symphony 15 in a Major Op 141 (Audio CD)
The recording of the 15th Symphony, and Violin Concerto No. 2 is clearly recorded, and takes the listener beyond emotions. Each movement of both pieces shows the author's final freedom of expression. The 15th Symphony was Shostakovich's last great symphony, and was written after his protaganist's, Stalin, death. The symphony is conducted with all the emotion that Kondrashin could draw from his orchestra. Like wise the Violin Concerto No. 2 shows not only the artist's command of the violin, but the emotions Oistrach draws from the piece as well. It is no wonder that Shostakovich wrote his violin concertos with this artist in mind. This a highly collectible, and treasured part of my collection.
