"I was able to identify with this mother losing her child, and feel anger with the truck driver, etc. Only a skilled writer has that much influence over her readers. Congratulations for weaving an interesting story line and entertaining us as well as making us think about what death means. I thought the complication of having Aunt Rose there to greet her added a lot to the storyline, and also gave the reader reassurance that all will be well when it is our turn. Well done." - Judge, Writer's Digest 21st Annual Self-Published Book Awards

I don't know why another reviewer was complaining about the language in this book. I didn't notice anything bad in that regard, and the writing was solid. I downloaded this book a couple months ago and finally decided to take a look at it on the bus one day. I didn't think it would be much but the writing grabbed me pretty quick and I found myself moving through the first few chapters pretty quickly.

I always like books that explore new and interesting possibilities, and this one does that for awhile in the middle. I think you'll find it thought-provoking and I hope you give this novel a chance!

Langwell has a gift for creating believable and real characters. I laughed and cried and fell in love with Rachel and her story. I was angry at what happened to Rachel and Joey, how could this story have a happy ending? I wanted to go back to the beginning and change what had happened, I wanted it to be a bad dream. But something strange happened to me, as Rachel struggled and grew, I changed with her. Given the same circumstance would I do the same or as well? I look forward to her next novel.

When I began reading A Symphony of Cicadas, I expected to be taken on a journey of the heart, but I never imagined I would be taken on a journey of the soul as well.

As the main character, Rachel, was propelled into the "life beyond life", the author artfully carries you along on her journey to share her experiences, and you learn and relearn the "lessons" that she struggles with along the way, many of which have profound implications for those of us still living on this side of the veil.

After being initially captivated by the characters in the story, I was then captivated by the theological implications of the reality that Rachel finds herself in, and how that world, so carefully crafted in the readers mind by the author, parallels the explanations of purgatory, which Catholic readers would be familiar with.

The mystical journey of love that Rachel is traveling, is a journey that we all are called to make, in my opinion, and therefore, I found some truly thought-provoking substance to the story that kept me wanting to read more. I actually burned through two batteries in my book light reading at night when I should have been sleeping!

According to my Kindle, I'm 87% of the way through the book. I can't wait to see how it ends, though I'll be disappointed when I'm done (always the sign of a great book, in my opinion)! And no matter how the story ends, the story itself has been a journey for me that was truly worth taking.

I could say more, but I've still got 13% of the book left to go, so I'm off to go read some more! Here's hoping there's a sequel!

An engaging plot and well rounded characters combine for a strong showing from first time author Crissi Langwell.
I opened this book up when it came in the mail to check it out for just a moment. Before I knew it I was well over 100 pages in and had to peel myself away. The next opportunity I had I picked up where I left off and read until I finished.
I was transported into the story and quickly made friends with the characters, cheering for their successes and sharing in their tragedies. The plot twists caught me by surprise and I felt there was very little that didn't get resolved by the end of the book.
I look forward to sharing this book with friends and family. And I can't wait to see what else Mrs. Langwell has up her sleeve.

I first downloaded this book on my kindle because my co-worker is the author's husband, but when I started reading it, I was amazed at how well it was written!! I would've never known this was her first book!! The journey that Rachel faces throughout the book is truly touching and so raw and emotional.this was an amazing book!! I hope she writes more!! I don't work with her husband anymore but I will certainly buy more of her books!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I'm a big fan of paranormal romance and mysteries. This was the first I'd read in this genre that used adult main characters rather than teens. I immediately felt drawn to the plot and remained engrossed in the story the whole time.

The main character Rachel accurately portrays the emotions of a woman who has lost everything and must deal with the consequences of a family moving on without her. Seeing Rachel watch her husband, children and sister share their grief was heartbreaking to me. Rachel's husband was an unselfish widow who does the best he can to cope and the secondary characters were strongly written. Although I wanted the end result to be different, darn it, (based on how many tears I shed) it concluded perfectly for the storyline and left me definitely planning on reading the sequel to this book.

Crissi's writing was lovely and poetic at times. I highly recommend this novel for those who love a ghost story with depth and mystery. I commend the author for penning such a great read!
