Another outstanding CD from Ms Brightman, April 14, 2009
This review is from: Symphony: Live in Vienna (Audio CD)
Sarah Brightman's latest live concert, filmed in St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna is a winner on all fronts. Featuring a dazzling lineup of songs from her current album Symphony, outstanding guest artists, a pickup orchestra and frontline rhythm section, her long-standing admirers will certainly not be disappointed. The Cathedral provides an atmospheric setting for Sarah to showcase both classical and popular repertoire with consumate ease. With so many highlights to choose from, her duets with Italian tenor Alessandro Safina, Manfred Mann vocalist Chris Thompson and Spanish counter-tenor Fernando Lima are most memorable. The show also features several older hits, among them Pie Jesu, Phantom of the Opera, Ave Maria and Time to say Goodbye.

Superb Concert Recording, March 12, 2009
This review is from: Symphony: Live in Vienna (Audio CD)
The quality of the CD is excellent and they didn't botch the editing job from DVD to CD this time, like on the Harem World Tour CD. My copy (Canadian edition) of "SLIV" doesn't have "Vide Cor Meum" as a bonus track. Also, the CD is a much poorer quality, glossy, mass-produced version of the much anticpated matte black finish disc (found in the PBS DVD&CD version).
There are a few minor glitches in the artwork here & there, that you'll probably notice if you look closely enough. Like on the back of the tray card, the Heading reads "DVD & CD Set List" instead of just "CD Set List" alone. Inside the booklet, there are beautiful photos taken from the show, but the inside of the tray card behind the CD, the picture of the vaulted ceiling in the cathedral looks rather out of place. The CD is housed in a jewel case and has an 8-page booklet. It's a great CD to add to your Sarah Brightman collection, and really stands out among Sarah's most amazing concerts ever.
As I wrote in my reviews for the DVD and DVD&CD editions of this item, I really enjoyed Atessa, POTO, Canto Della Terra. Sarah's duets are crystal clear and she can really belt out some really high, powerful notes with little effort. Chris Thompson sounds winded and tired, although he still has that rocker edge to his voice. POTO ends up being a really great duet, although probably many of the attendees at that concert didn't expect to have to sit with their backs to Sarah while she sang it. Same with "Pie Jesu". She sings this song at the back of the Cathedral and has everyone's backs to her. It doesn't matter, cos the audience clearly loved and enjoyed the concert, and I'm glad they didn't edit out much of the applause. Go and get this CD because it's really worth it.

Sarah's Done It Again, June 28, 2009
Sarah Brightman could very well be the best soprano of our times. No matter what type of musical style she selects, the results are astounding and most satisfying to the listener's ear. I highly recommend this recording to Sarah's fans. For those not familiar with Sarah Brightman's vast repetoire and many recordings, this is a great recording to begin a musical journey you won't regret.
