On a scale of 1 to 5, clearly a 6!,

This review is from: Symphony Sessions, The (Audio CD)
I was first introduced to this album by my high school music teacher over 10 years ago, and to this day it remains one of my favorite CDs of all time, and David Foster remains my favorite modern composer. This is clearly David Foster's best album, and it offers something for everyone - soft, soaring melodies, the full force and fury of a symphony orchestra, and a reflective piano duet to close out the album. I would recommend this CD to anyone, and have actually 'turned on' several new listeners to David Foster with it. Sit on the couch, turn on the surround sound, and crank up the volume, and be prepared to be blown away (just be careful, there are huge ranges in dynamics on this album - but what a great way to destroy your speakers....) If anyone can point me to a copy of the now out of print VHS video of this album, I'd love to buy it.You will love this CD!

Superb Artistry,

I've been listening to this CD since its debut over 15 years ago and it is still in my top 10 of all-time. Exquisite compositions combined with expert keyboard artistry add up to a collector's item. It is emotional music done with superb sensitivity.

David Foster at his Finest,
By
This review is from: Symphony Sessions, The (Audio CD)
Around the time of the 1988 Winter Games,David Foster's song "Winter Games",was used for the opening ceremonies retooled as "Can You Feel It".This is one of my favorite Foster CD's and I play it often. Its nice to have music to wake up to,or just as dinner music. This album is a "class act" in itself! I got more acquainted with his music through movies like "breakfast club","secret of my success","color purple" and the list goes on.I give this album HIGH KUDOS

my favourite album ever,
By Jaime Castro "Jaime Westcoast" (Madrid, Spain) - See all my reviews

The best job to David Foster in his faboulous carer. He must be to make other job like this, but is very difficult.Today this one is my favourite album, (I brought it in march of '88)
All tracks are excellent but my favourite is "just out of reach"that made me cry a lot of times. This album is recorded in 1988, not in '81. From Madrid, Spain, the eternal falling in love to Westcoast Music...Jaime

An interesting mix of music - much better than Yanni,
By A Customer
This review is from: Symphony Sessions, The (Audio CD)
I performed on this album with the Vancouver Symphony, and the thing that impressed me more than anything was David's ear. The pieces are somewhat light in nature, but they are quite innovative. Of course, Winter Games was the main focus of the album, but there were other tracks that are noteworthy as well, particularly the Concerto and Firedance. Excellent balance, mixing, and performing by Foster and the very under-rated and relatively still unknown Vancouver (B.C.) Symphony Orchestra. Even though I played on the album and perhaps have heard the pieces more analytically than most listeners might, I still enjoy it. If you like Yanni, John Tesh, David Lanz, etc, you ought to really like this album. I believe this album contains music that is more expressive, less pop-formulaic, and not as hyper (especially compared to Yanni!). It is good as background music, and also to sit and listen to on a quiet evening. Give it a shot!

Revolutionary,

Five stars is not enough for this indescribable set of works. A brilliant fusion of genres, techniques, passions, and continents. From the "magic carpet" of Firedance into the "thrill ride" of Morning To Morning, it would be difficult to imagine a more pleasant experience.

My first introduction to David Foster,
By David C. Culberson (Charlotte, North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Symphony Sessions, The (Audio CD)
Symphony Sessions was my introduction to the musical genius of David Foster. Specifically it was the tune "Winter Games". Many songs on this disc have "heart-wrenching" (and I mean that in a good way) melodies and chordal progressions and support. Some of the most beautiful music ever written. Listen especially to the lushness of "The Ballad", the serenity of "Time Passing" and the simple, yet soaring theme of "Water Fountain". For the classical music lover, this recording comes close to that particular "flavor". Even they would have to say a pop genius like Foster can hold his own in the classical realm after listening to "Concerto in G". Your money is well-spent here. Sit back and enjoy these great songs!

David Please Make Another CD Like This One,
By Cory Carruthers (Chilliwack, BC (just outside Vancouver)) - See all my reviews

I have had this CD for 12 years (one of my first) and I would have to say the best. I love every song on this CD; it's a great CD to pop in after a long day at the office, or for a nice dinner. My only wish is that Mr. Foster would make another one; his other CD's just don't stack up to this great piece of work.
