Editorial Reviews

2010 album from the Canadian Hardcore act. Symptoms + Cures is firmly rooted in the brand of Hardcore that its three predecessors helped established, yet incorporates more musical layers and vocal variance than we've heard from the band thus far. Trademark elements of the band's sound are abundant on Symptoms + Cures: gang vocals, half-time bridges, and tastefully-placed breakdowns among them. However, the record also features a more dynamic vocal performance than we've previously heard, weaving a much harsher and urgent vocal delivery with sing-able passages, not to mention new musical expansions that stray from the straight-up simplicity of Hardcore.

Just got this one, and I gotta say, this may be my favorite one.

"Balance" is great and the song really grows and develops with an amazing ending created by some great guitar work.

The first time I played it I thought the good stuff will be on the first couple of tracks.

Every time I hear the opening track "Do Yourself a Favor", I want to start a riot. The song has so much energy. It's a great way to start an album. I wasn't a big fan of "Crooked Floors" at first but it has grown on me since. "GM Vincent and I" is a super catchy anthem that'll probably be stuck in your head. "Because of All" is also a really good song. It too has grown on me since my first listen. "The Concept Stays" is catchy in a hardcore/punk way and its lyrics are fantastic ("Now we hold the key and no doubt we always have.") The gang vocals, tempo changes, and honest brutality in this song is mind blowing. It doesn't let up at all. "Balance" is great and the song really grows and develops with an amazing ending created by some great guitar work. They really create a great mood on every song. I love the idea behind "Symptoms + Cures". It's like a personal statement to anyone taking a stand against what they believe in and fight for. The ending lyrics "Is this progress?" speaks what so many must be wondering. "Manifest" shifts the mood into a fast-paced, hardcore/punk opening. Then it turns into chugga chugga riffs that'll make anyone want to headbang. I love the lyric, "'Cause we just want to find a place in it all." The music fades out (all great and fits the mood very well) into "Get Alone". A great not quite fast, but definitely not slow song. The lyrics, "I was running on empty ideas but I had to write them down just to listen" really stand out to me. The chorus is amazing. Just the way "Get Alone" is sung. Next comes "Magnet Pull" a personal song that I really like. I don't even know how to describe this song. Just really good. "Pull Back The Reins" is a sorta heavy song that ends with a sorta long instrumental outro but one that fits the album.Read more ›

Wow.. that's all i can say. just by listening to the first half of it, I can already tell this CD is going to get so much more play by me. I'm a hardcore Comeback Kid fan, and this is just more intense and raw than anything they've released. He has finally found his vocal style, and destroys the mic with them. they have everything, mid-tempo hardcore, super fast technical, NYHC style stuff, chants, and just amazing musicianship. You will NOT be disappointed if you listen to melodic hardcore.

I like this album. CBK isn't quite the same with the newish singer, but still better than 99% of the hardcore out there. GM Vincent & I is the best song on the album, and they have played it live both of the last times I've seen them.
