Good, funny info...but expected a book,
By
This review is from: Out of Sync With Police Academies (Paperback)
The book is more of a collection of quotes, jokes than anything. I was looking for a tool that would ease the transition into the dept. While I know a sense of humor helps, this book was a let-down. It was funny though.

insiders guide to police training,

Picked it up at dinner and read the entire book that night. Loved the lingo, and can't help but using some of the phrases. Gives the reader an insiders look at police training, as "House of God" portrayed medical internship. Looking forward to more from McGrath.

A Peek Behind the Badge,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of Sync With Police Academies (Paperback)
This book was NEVER read by a news journalist, because if it were, we would all have heard about it. It was recommended by a good freind who knows the author. Its funny, it's honest and at times, a bit frightening when you realize this is how cops think and feel. As a window into the soul of the average police officer, its shines a simple light on their style of humor (black) and how biased and predjudiced law enforcement officers can be. That said, it equally details (anecdotally) the genuine "toughness" of the job, the lack of appreciation from the public, and what it feels like to put your life on the line on a regular basis. Before you judge them, read the book and see if you can't better understand the "whys" and "hows" of police lives. Buy this simple to read, fun book. Much respect.

Silly Little Book,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Out of Sync With Police Academies (Paperback)
I don't know what you are expecting when you buy this book but know that it is not written in narrative form. Every page has a little humorous slogan or proverb pertaining to police work (Example- on one page the entire text will read- A good cop never gets cold, never goes hungry and never leaves work late). The most words that appear on any page is about 20.It's just a bunch of little, silly slogans..Good gag gift for a newbie graduating the academy.

A Must Read For Anyone Condidering a Career in Police Work,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of Sync With Police Academies (Paperback)
This book is a must read for anyone considering a career in police work and is interesting subject matter for anyone else. The book is easy to read and is something you will want to read over and over again. The subject matter is serious, but is often presented in a humorous way. The combination of reality and the de-glorification of police work will hopefully ensure the "right" men and women will take and be prepared for this important job!

This is a great book!,
By Greg "Knowledge is Power" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of Sync With Police Academies (Paperback)
This should be required reading for anyone who is thinking about joining the police force. Although I have the utmost respect for the brave men and women who are police officers, it is clear from reading this insightful and enlightening book that the job is not meant for everyone. Besides being underpaid and harassed by some of the absolute scum on Earth, McGrath brilliantly shows that there are political mine fields and office politics that can overwhelm individuals who might not be able to deal with the stress of having to put one's life on the line each and every day. This book shows the other side of the police force, the darker side which is not revealed from training manuals, but rather is only revealed through working the streets and interacting with violent criminals. The author's strength is in his ability to convey his message by using humor and anecdotes rather than long-winded and boring explanations. Anyone who is considering joining the police force needs to study this book. This book also provides useful insight into the real lingo and slang of everyday police officers so when a cop mentions a "bum chum" or a "deuce", you will know what he or she is talking about. This is an A+ book and I can't wait for his next book.

Just the facts on life as a beat cop, a must read!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Out of Sync With Police Academies (Paperback)
Finally a book written by a cop, for cops, about cops, benefiting cops. A must read for all law enforcement candidates, instructors, critics and those in the field of law enforcement. McGrath shares the most complete collection of classic cop quotes, officer's views, experiences, and opinions in a true book of "wisdom". "Out of Sync with Police Academies" takes over where police academies finish. I couldn't put this book down.
