5.0 out of 5 stars The original book on Synectics, by the creator himself!
This is the original book on the powerful Synectics problem solving process as created by William J J Gordon in the 50's or 60's. Now, it is classic, but still remains as a masterpiece!

The hallmark of the Synectics process is analogy building and/or metaphorical knowing. It has been involved in the development of many successful commercial products...

2.0 out of 5 stars Over-rated
This book was published in 1961. It is obsolete. Its old. The pages are loose and falling out. There are too many modern books out there on creativity that are much better. I paid way too much. Its only worth about $2. Don't make the mistake I made.

The hallmark of the Synectics process is analogy building and/or metaphorical knowing. It has been involved in the development of many successful commercial products.

The process can be applied in both the educational and business settings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maximizing group-think for novel ideas, October 14, 2013
Here is an important book that puts forth an operational theory of creativity, extracted from numerous tape recorded group experiments in vivo, i.e, as they happened, which gave new insight into the underlying psychological factors at work in the formation of new, workable ideas.

As the book states, Synectics theory holds the following hypotheses :

1.Creative efficiency can be markedly increased if we understand the psychological process by which they operate ;

2. in creative process the emotional component is more important than the intellectual, the irrational more important than the rational ;

3. it is these emotional, irrational elements which can and must be understood in order to increase the probability of success in a problem-solving situation.

The theory as I take it has been validated in numerous companies throughout the world. If you're someone who wants to look away from traditional design methodologies and involve a little purpose driven psychology in your company's process of solutions creation, do read this book.
