About the Artist

Synesthesia is evidence that after Ten years running, JED continues to generate multi-faceted compositions that challenge and break away from the typical verse-chorus formulas of mainstream rock music, while maintaining radio appeal. JED’s artistry delves beyond the realms of the everyday & the mundane, into fresh & enigmatic dimensions. Synesthesia offers music and a message that is darkly grooving, intense, melodic, and dynamically & stylistically contrasting enough to thwart any one musical niche. Synesthesia is an independent release that has potential to put JED on the music map beyond the Seattle Indie band scene.

3.0 out of 5 stars JED is not your conventional band, December 11, 2007
This review is from: Synesthesia (Audio CD)
The Good
"Madmartigan" draws you in with its hypnotic rhythms and chunky riffage. The dual guitar attack of Chad Kunesh and Mike Car continues on "Ode to the Yeomann." Vocalist Erick Heimann tests the limits of his mighty pipes throughout. "New Ambits" is a lyricists dream as the thoughts and emotions come to life from beginning to end. Thick guitars and chunky bass lines command "Nothing." Once again it's Heimann's rock melodies that stand out on "Two Eyed Cyclops." Drummer Mike Peterson finally gets his day in the sun on the opening phrases of "Metragnomes." It's almost as if the band is in competition with itself as the double-ax attack and vocal melodies attempt to take away from Peterson's skin bashing.

The Bad
A few of songs are just one continuous riff pattern that could use a chord change to spice things up.

The Verdict
JED is not your conventional band. They don't write verse, chorus, verse. They don't make a point of driving home their song titles within the lyrics. They don't hit you with simplistic three chord melodies. No, JED is not for simple rock music fans. Jed is a thinking man's rock band. Synesthesia is a thinking man's rock album that is rich with heavy riffs, unique vocal melodies, and cryptic lyrics. I could try and come up with a band they sound like, but they really stand on their own. The closest I can come, it Tool with more fire power.
