Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Correct prescribing is the art of carefully fitting pathogenetic to clinical symptoms, and as such at present requires a special aptness in grasping the essential points of symptom images, great drudgery, mastering a working knowledge of our large Materia Medica or a most skillful use of many books of reference.

It is the aim of this book to simplify and introduce method into this work, so that the truly homoeopathic curative remedy may be worked out with greater ease and certainty. For this purpose a combination of the analytic and synoptic methods has been thought best.

About the Author

U.S. homoeopath. Student of von Boenninghausen; worked ceaselessly from early 1933 to his death in September 1935 on the translation, compilation and augmentation of Boenninghausen's Characteristics and Repertory. His outstanding contribution to the homoeopathic system was the coordination and compilation of significant features of seemingly dissociated symptom groups in his A Synotic Key of the Materia Medica. He sought out the so-called genius of the drug by focusing on differentiation.
-Reprinted from The Concordant Materia Medica by Frans Vermeulen; Merlijn Publishers, Duinoordstraat 78, 2023 WE Haarlem, The Netherlands.

The following is reprinted with the permission of Homéopathe International:

Cyrus Maxwell Boger, the son of Cyrus and Isabelle Maxwell Boger, was born on May 13, 1861 in western Pennsylvania.

He received his elementary education in the public schools of Lebanon, Pa., then graduated in pharmacy from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and later in medicine from Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia. He settled in Parkersburg, W. Va., in 1888 where a long and very large practise was his, patients consulting him from neighboring states and from distant states and countries.

His ambition was to devote all his time to teaching and writing but he never reached the point of giving up his practise. However, he frequently lectured before scientific audiences at the Pulte Medical College in Cincinnati and was a teacher of philosophy, materia medica, and repertory study in the American Foundation for Homoeopathy Postgraduate School since its third year in 1924.

Boger knew homoeopathic literature well; he had access to the original provings and writings, for he was a German scholar.

He was married three times. A daughter of the first marriage died quite young. The second marriage brought him four sons and five daughters of whom: Robert Forester Boger; Dr. Martha Isabelle Boger Shattuck, a member of our Association; Elsie Boger DeGroft; Eleanor Boger Lanham; and Alberta Maxwell Boger.

His third wife, Anna M. Boger, whom we know, was his secretary and constant helper.

Messages poured into his office from everywhere after his death on September 2, 1935.

He was a devoted follower of the Boenninghausen method of a repertory study, as all his published works show.
