5.0 out of 5 stars Syntax 37 LCD a great buy
This TV was really plug and play. Basically its take it out of the box plug it in and enjoy. HD television is fantastic. I made a mistake in the filing of a rebate on this product. The company was great about communicating with me and treated me very well. As in other reviews I would say the remote is the only weak part. Very vanilla and has to be aimed right on...

3.0 out of 5 stars Olevia LT37HVE 37" WS HD-R LCD TV, September 8, 2005

This review is from: Syntax Olevia LT37HVE 37-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
this is my second wide screen TV, the other is a 49" widescreen
projection type, this is my 1st thin LCD

Pros: (1) crisp and clear picture, no bad pixels
(2) good sounding speakers, audio presets in menu
(3) stylish cabinet design, cool light over input terminals
"only stays on for a little time though about 1 min,
but still a good and cool idea"
(4) POP12 = tv lover mode, source and swap between
13 screens, 12 mini around 1 main
(5) prompt technical support
(6) loads of inputs, vga support
(7) OLEVIA name lights when TV off " this isnt so much
a PRO, its just cool"

Cons: (1) doesnt play all widescreen movies properly
"make sure your dvd player is set to 16:9 or
none of them will. I found this out when I 1st tried
watching some DVD's, I e-mailed tech support
about this and I recieved a correct responce within
1/2 an hour"
(2) supports only 2 aspects 4:3, 16:9 "my other set
has NORMAL 4:3, FULL 16:9 and an additional
3 THEATER aspects to choose from, so most
movie aspect types are supported"
(3) hazy, foggy movie scenes show patterns " I dont
know how to explain this, for brief time tiny dark
diamonds appear during foggy or hazy video
playback"
(4) takes 4.5 to 5 seconds to switch between video
modes, and there is a sound hickup about halfway
through the switch over.
(5) poorly design'd remote, "it should have the nice,
big number input at the bottom, and the hidden
but vital controls at the top but not hidden..."
(6) wall hanging bracket additional and expensive

for the most part I like this TV, the video playback is crisp and as
clear as the signal it recieves, the cabinet is attractive IMHO, the
speakers produce good sound. BUT if I were getting it for a home
entertainment system I'd be unhappy, the lack of aspect types
means you will run into movies that play in a aprox. 26" diag format
"Lake Placid widescreen version, for instance", but I'm not, so thats
not so important, the 4.5 - 5 second long video mode switch over
time, and BRIGHT blue screen, and audio hickup is annoying, the
remote is odd, it has a standard layout "like a telephone" fairly large
keyed, well labeled number input section at the top, a circular channel,
volume, menu in the center, and a hidden "slide open/off" compartment,
with important controls at the bottom, the problem is the slide cover is
difficult to open, when you slide it off the remote looks incomplete, and
creates sharper pointed corners, also the buttons are small and
closely spaced, and are rather hard to read in low light, a bad design
IMO. for the low Amazon price I paid, I can put up with these minor
irritations...

The company was great about communicating with me and treated me very well. As in other reviews I would say the remote is the only weak part. Very vanilla and has to be aimed right on target. But the performance of the TV more than makes up for it. We really enjoy rental DVD's now. Its like being at the movies. I would definitly buy other products from this company. A great buy for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bargain for its size, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Syntax Olevia LT37HVE 37-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
For those looking for 37" LCD TVs for an affordable price, this is it. At first, the brand name made me skeptical because it's not exactly a household brand but after perusing through the other customer reviews and doing a little research on the TV's company, I decided to set aside my bias for well-known brand names.

I don't have cable and therefore can't critic on HD performance but DVD and VHS programs show great clarity and no pixelation even at close range viewing. Glare should not be an issue unless you have the whole set directly facing the sunlight. I also tested the set as a computer monitor and you would be amazed at what a pleasure it is to play your favorite computer games in full 37" widescreen glory w/o any distortions on the screen.

The only minor drawback so far is that the speakers are permanently mounted and can't be detached but otherwise there are no problems with audio quality.

After viewing the TV for almost a month now with no problems, I consider this one of my greatest finds and buys on the net. I highly recommend this set.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleased with this purchase, September 25, 2005
This review is from: Syntax Olevia LT37HVE 37-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
Ok, I've had my new TV for several weeks so I'm ready to write this review.

First of all... this is one heavy television. If you want to hang it on the wall above your head I highly recommend you have two friends help you. I did it by myself (typical male) and I'm extremely lucky I didnt drop it.

Second... I used it as a computer monitor for a week and it was wonderful. The text was clear and there was no ghosting as I played Star Wars Galaxies. It was a thing of beauty, honest. 37" of gaming pleasure.

Third... I was slightly disappointed with it as a television when it was only two feet from my eyes. The television picture was slightly blurry and was NOT what I was looking for. However, after mounting it on the wall and getting it further away from me the picture was very good. When viewed from the couch it was beautiful.

Fourth... watching movies on this LCD TV is a joy.

I've rated it at 4 stars out of 5 because of my disatisfaction over close up viewing. However, if I were fair I would admit that it's my own fault and that I shouldn't have expected better results without the higher resolution and higher price of other televisions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great TV for the MONEY!, August 16, 2005
This review is from: Syntax Olevia LT37HVE 37-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
TV was ready to use out of the box. It took less than an hour to get it from box to hanging on my family room wall. It look great by the way! I have Directv with only a s-video connection and the picture is great, so I thought then I hooked up my DVD player and realized how the picture can look. Once I get a HD receiver it will blow people away. The price was right on this set $1600 compared to $2700 for the same size Sharp? Easy desicion for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing for this price, August 13, 2005

I bought 37" Olevia 2 weeks ago thru Target/Amazon. So far it exceeded my expectations. First I used with my direct Analog TV connection and it worked great. Some people complain about regular tv channels not showing good, but it might be due to their signal strength also. I had an amplifier installed before on the cable. When I shut down that, the view looked dotted. However, it is mostly good with the amplifier although signal quality/color/contrast change between channels. Contrast/brightness levels need adjustment sometimes. Then I got Cox HDTV and it is excellent quality with the DVI connection from box. The box component connection somehow was showing my analog channels not good as previous direct antenna link. I recommend highly on the DVI connection. I can watch the IMAX documentaries within couple feet with no resolution problem. The detail is amazing. I rented some DVD's, but I didn't have too much time to watch after HDTV channels. THe IMAX dvd also looked very good in component cable versus some older movies from 70's looked not as good. I see some edge resolution problems with some non-HDTV channels with DVI connection as I read in cnet review. It might be good to have maybe zooming adjustments like in computer monitors as for edge correction. With my laptop vga connection, the 1280x768 view do not fit 100% although you can stretch/zoom. I haven't used much except adjusting/testing colors between 2 lcd screens. It has blue/red/green color adjustments. Tint, saturation and noise reduction are off with DVI connection. The newer HDMI connection instead of DVI also might be better if they improve the model. Final say, excellent buy for this price. It uses the same LCD screen with LG models but nearly at the half price. I was going for 30-32" range due to prices before I see this model, and it fits better in my living room. I highly recommend LCD screens for watching tv compared to a plasma due to burn-out problems. I don't care now whether it fits 100% or not. The speakers are OK, even loud for the neighbours with movie and music options. No quality problems so far, no bad pixels. I give overall 4.5 stars. Until 40-45" LCD prices get cheaper, it is the best buy overall for budget concerned buyers.

Amazon.com was great ! My TV arrived on time within 3 days from ordering it. FANTASTIC !

When I hooked this up to my Directv the picture was very nice. I expected a bit more, but I think its my Directv receiver (its over 8 years old). When I watched a DVD on my progressive scan DVD player (1 year old) the picture was AWESOME. I cant wait to get my Directv HD system hooked up. This was a great purchase for the money.

The remote is a bit sticky. You have to aim it right at the tv to get it to work, but thats no reason not to buy this TV.

Im very pleased. Woooo hoooo

I had been shopping for a new tv for a while before biting the bullet and going with this one. I had never heard of Syntax before and that usually makes me nervous. However I searched the web a bit and found out they are one of the top sellers in the US right now because of their pricing. The specs on this tv are equal to or better than nearly everything else out there and the price is roughly half.

I have only had my tv for a week and a half now, but I am very glad I went with this tv. It looks great mounted above the fireplace and you can see the picture from anywhere in the room. Shipping was cheap and it arrived in perfect shape with no dead pixels or other damage. Like other reviewers have said, the remote stinks so invest in one of the Logitech remotes with all the money you saved.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST FOR THE BUCKS!!!, November 16, 2005

This review is from: Syntax Olevia LT37HVE 37-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
After months of searching around, I finally settled on this as my primary family room TV. I am not disappointed. At twice the price, it would be a good deal. The picture quality equals or surpasses just about anything on the market. The delivery (a delay as usual, causing me to waste time) leaves something to be desired; still, the guys were careful and the package arrived in good shape. I COULDN'T BE MORE PLEASED with the quality of this TV. Now, if Olevia (and every other electronics firm in the universe)could just find somebody who could write a straight-forward easy-to-read user manual we'd be in business!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable, November 10, 2006
This review is from: Syntax Olevia LT37HVE 37-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
After ten months of ownership I can agree with everyone that this tv has a spectacular picture, when there is a picture. Replaced once under warranty, repaired once more and now broken again for the third time. Quality control is clearly not an issue with these people. Customer service works well after you get though to them, assuming you get through at all. Save your money until you can afford a set from one of the big names, they cannot afford reviews like this, apparently Syntax could not care less.
