FAIL, bad components, company out of business.,

Excellent input setup, better than average screen, pretty weak remote (BUTTONS AND distance/angle),bad speakers.
Have seen reports on AVSforums, that ALL of these fail. A victim of the capacitor plague on the power supply. If yours takes more than a minute for splash screen to come up, or the blue light won't go off after hitting the on button, take it in now, and have the capacitors replaced on the power supply. As they go bad, they will cause the mainboard and inverter to fail too, making it a big doorstop. I was very happy with the tradeoffs on this TV, but think bad capacitors are an act of war on our economy and environment. Worked for 2 years as a refurbished, and am going to attempt repair myself. Is a Flicker set on repairing a 27". Company is out of business, and customer support was never even as good as the cell phone companys.

I have had three olevia lcd. I was getting them at cost from Office Depot. Built in QAM and ATSC tuner works great with comcast. I get 70 plus channels with a $12/mo limited Basic package. I hook up my laptop HDMI port to the wall mounted 437 in our Living room to watch DVD's and Netflix. Picture is awesome. of course it looks best in room with low light. I also play Call of Duty on it with no motion blur or noticable problems.

I bought one of these on sale 1 1/2 years ago and love it. To date I have had no problems. Picture is great, Sound is fine, and once it is on... response is instant. When my family and friends come over to watch a game I get many comments about the great picture. The only complaint I have is that it takes several seconds to turn on when I hit the power key on the remote. Does not bother me but new users get extra finger pressing exercise. I gave it 5 stars because for the $699 I paid it provided better picture and features than models costing over $1000.

I have had my Olevia for two years now and I must say that it has been the best value I've received as far as electronics go. This set has plenty of video hookups and expandability. The picture quality in both HD and component mode is excellent. It can be said that the appearance of black is a little weak on this TV but that is generally true for all LCDs. I am a regular Playstation 3 user and I must say that both blu-rays and HD games look stunning. Color is vibrant and crisp. The reason I'm giving this set three stars is that it does not support full 1080p, it can only upconvert to 1080i. In my opinion this set is a bit behind the curve due to the fact that most of your major manufacturers now offer 1080p standard on most sets.
It stands to be said that you cannot, however, get a set with such great quality of picture and overall screen size for such an awesome price.

We purchased a refurbished tv (not through Amazon) and also bought a 1 year extended warranty. Within 2 months a loud crackling noise began coming out of the speakers. After speaking to the customer service rep, they suggested using a surge protector (the electricity may be the cause of the noises). After 2 more months (the original 90 day refurbished warranty had expired), we called the extended warranty company. They do not have technicians who can service Olevia TV's. So we ended up getting a check for the purchase price to buy a different tv or to get service on our own. What a joke! Don't buy refurbished! Not to mention that very few universal remotes work with Olevia tv's.

I purchased this set a little over a year ago. It has been a good set and displays HD content well. It only had 1 HDMI port but it can be overcome with a splitter. The colors are vivid but the black areas could be better. But it's not a deal breaker.
About a month ago it wouldn't turn on. I called Olevia customer service and they agreed to repair it for free even though it was 2 months out of warranty. They even paid for shipping. I've read reviews about people who have had bad experiences with Syntax Brillian/Olevia. But they have been more than accommodating to me. I would recommend this Tv even though the power board failed just after a year. But since it was repaired for free i can't complain too much. Hope this helps. |
