A Very Useful Tome,
By John Noodles (A Field in ND, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology: The Professional Manual (Paperback)
I cut my astrological teeth on Tyl's work. He tends to be somewhat psychobabble jargony, and as a result often lapses into abstraction, but his technique of homing in on a chart's key points--the points of developmental tension--is remarkably accurate and useful. This book is huge, with gobs of information and examples. The prose is often clunky, unwieldy, but the information is great. He addresses a wide variety of topics in this book, including career profiling, sexuality, health, and prediction.

Intense, many examples, for serious students & professionals,
By A Customer
This review is from: Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology: The Professional Manual (Paperback)
This is the text book used in Noel Tyl's certification correspondence course for astrologers. It is a heavy duty resource, packed with example charts and explanations of concepts for the intermediate to advanced astrology student/practitioner. Tyl's unique interpretation methods are presented in a concise format, heavily cross referenced and containing many useful extras. This book is a must for the serious astrologer. Astrological links are connected to behavioral psychology and the result is quite impressive.

A helpful guide for serious astrology,

I read this book as part of Noel's correspondence course. At the beginning it scared me the size of the book, but after I started reading my fear was replaced for a need to continue reading.Noel's course and books definitely helped me to organize my analysis of a chart. The many examples and cases in this book are very helpful on how to approach and start a chart interpretation. Noel's background in psychology, social work and philosophy adds an important ingredient to the book. Highly recommended!

Excellent Astrology/Counseling Book; Needs a Good Editor,
This review is from: Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology: The Professional Manual (Paperback)
Mr. Tyl has developed an excellent methodology for efficient and organized chart synthesis from a psychological perspective. Unfortunately, the writing style of the book does not reflect the same efficiency and organization as his chart approach. The writing style is rambling, long-winded and lacks adequate paragraph structure. Mr. Tyl could benefit from a good editor to make this book more readable, in which case I would give it 4 stars.

Indispensable astrology,
This review is from: Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology: The Professional Manual (Paperback)
Noel Tyl's writing style is certainly prodigious, but I doubt that any of it is extraneous; not coming from a Capricorn. The wordiness is for impact. All of Noel's works need to be read with enthusiasm, because that is what kind of person he is - enthusiastic! Mr. Tyl's Cancer AP Ascendant is pouring right through all those words to teach you, the reader, what astrology can do for you. The book is also thick because it covers everything that Noel has taught and is teaching about chart analysis and how to have a consultation with your client (or yourself). It is not a book for a beginning student because much is taken for granted about what the reader already knows. If you know the basics about signs and houses and aspects and life cycles, please buy this book, it will not confuse you. In fact, it will clear things up. The astrology itself is as clear as a bell...a big bell.

An excellent book for anyone interested in astrological interpretation. You cannot go wrong with Noel. The man is a master in his field and I defy anyone not to learn something from him.

Noel Tyl and this book are the best there is in Astrology!!!,
By Pattie (Michigan, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology: The Professional Manual (Paperback)
As far as I'm concerned, this book is the "Bible" of Astrology. If you want to learn more about astrology and the psychology of it (or just improve the knowledge you have), this book should be "studied" and not just read. Noel Tyl truly has a method to understand and synthesize a chart. He gives guidelines, explanations, and examples of his synthesis with 122 charts. It's not meant for a beginner, but when you're at a point in your studies and/or astrological knowledge that you want to put it all together and synthesize a chart, this book will help you. Another reviewer said "He tends to be somewhat psychobabble jargony, and as a result often lapses into abstraction...." In spite of his comment, he still rated it 5 stars. Don't let his comment scare you, however. I don't really agree with it, but I will admit that there are a lot of long sentences, but the information is there, and it is clear if you take the time to go over it and think about it. This is why I recommend that it needs to be "studied" and not just read. The knowledge is there. I was reading a book on the "Enneagram" at one time, and I came across a sentence which still sticks with me because I think it may apply in other instances. It referred to someone named "Gurdjieff" and it said "...because one of his [Gurdjieff] teaching methods was to make everything difficult for his students so they would discover as much as possible on their own." Think about that. It make's sense.

Counseling Straight Up, with Twist of Astrology,
By "firerizing" (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology: The Professional Manual (Paperback)
As a reader, I often find that I am not so much using my knowledge of astrology and tarot in the reading, as just counseling people. I don't think I would be exxagerating to state that well over 75% of the people I read for just want to unload and get some type of counseling. I found this book to be helpful in gaining more skills and knowledge in these areas. Granted, it didn't seem to teach me anything new in astrology, but I do feel I gained a wealth 0f knowledge when I look at how it has helped me look for key signs and know how to react in certain situations during readings.
