I really like the story, it was very creative and had me sucked in from the beginning. I try not to complain too much about editing with my free kindle books, but it was pretty distracting here. There were several times where I had to re-read to figure out what they were talking about. Luckily, I wanted to see what was going to happen bad enough that I dealt with it.

I picked this book up on Amazon because I thought the premise sounded really interesting..a girl who creates artificial life forms in fantastical creatures images-vampires, sirens, etc for the rich as companions or to decorate their mansions with.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book when we are introduced to punky/goth Kora with her turquoise hair and nails and learn she is basically kept a slave working for a corporation that supplies these wealthy clients. When she is shipped off to a fellow scientist to "help" her with projects, the novel goes from a futuristic/dystopian feel to more of a gothic novel feel. The house is full of strange people with personal dynamics that got confusing from time to time.

I felt the middle of the book dragged a bit and I found myself not caring what happened to Kora, but then the action and drama picked up with an unexpected twist which kept my interest until the end. However, I felt the ending was a bit abrupt.

All in all, the novel was well written and definitely different from anything I've read. If you like dark gothic style novels and futuristic sci fi this is a good mix of both.

The idea was interesting, but the story was too slow from time to time and it was making it difficult to stay focused. However I liked the creepy castle with its creepy but in general good-natured inhabitants. I didn't get the character of Max at all and I became a fan of Kora. I was also wondering whole time, how it is possible, Ruby wasn't put to some special facility already years ago, since she was obviously mentally ill. It seemed a bit strange, that there weren't any normal human characters in this novel except for slaves and one retired scientist.

I'm a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy but this one was just weird to me. Chick can create synthetic people, that part I liked, but the whole "mom is an aging porn star with a monster fetish that wants to resurrect her career and have immortality" just kind of ruined the whole story for me. The story came to an abrupt end that made me think there will be more but I won't be reading. So glad I got this as a freebie download.

As a teenager reading this book I thought it was good. I think it would have been better if it had been well edited. Also, I felt that the author put a couple of unnecessary "plot twists" which made me want to stop reading, for lack of understanding. The author also did not finish or complete many of the points in the book which left you hanging, and not in a good way.

The first female pages were interesting and the mysteries captured my attention. But once Kora left the lab it just got weirder and weirder until I could not follow the story at all.

This is such a brilliant, original story. Shonna Wright - you have a unique voice and I am very much looking forward to hearing (read: reading) SO much more from you! I couldn't stop reading it, and I can't stop wishing for more. I have to say, I was disappointed when I found there are no more stories from you on here yet. I just checked out your blog, and just know - don't get discouraged, because you're a breath of fresh air for us. You're exactly the type of author we need to pull us out of our novel-a-day reading haze and make us laugh, cry, and HUNGER to know the resolution to the mystery! You're fabulous. Thank you.

I am one who has to finish a book, not matter what. Its the OCD coming out of me I guess. This book was very difficult to finish, and I often just skipped pages to get the end. The store was very muddled, and I had a hard time focusing. I felt that the characters needed more development, and the the story could have been explain more. The story was just off. The whole synthetic thing was just weird, and I had a hard time buying into it.
