5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Bible, March 29, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Syriac Bible (Hardcover)
This is one of the most well put together Bibles I've ever had. It is the most visually appealing Bible I have, making it very enjoyable to read. If you are learning Syriac this is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Syriac Bible, November 17, 2007
This review is from: Syriac Bible (Hardcover)
My comments are based on my 1991 copy, but as this version of the Syriac Bible has been reprinted for years, I doubt its format has changed for the current edition.

This Bible has a good hardback binding and two silver-white ribbons to mark pages. The edges of the pages are red.

This Bible is divided into three sections, each with its own table of contents and its own page numbering: Old Testament, Deuterocanonical books, New Testament.

A different font is used for each section. The Old Testament uses the rather distinctive Serto Malankara font, with vocalization only for some proper names. The Deuterocanonical books are handwritten in Serto, with no vocalization. The New Testament is printed in a font similar to Serto Jerusalem, and is fully vocalized. (For illustrations of the fonts mentioned, see the Beth Mardutho site [Amazon will not allow me to include the link].) Curiously enough, although the New Testament is typeset, its table of contents is handwritten.

The reason I gave this Bible four stars instead of five is that the type is sometimes broken or blurred, and therefore hard to read.

If you want a good quality, standard Syriac Bible, this is the one for you. There is even a letter printed in the front by the Syriac Patriarch in Antioch. So enjoy reading this Bible from a very ancient tradition!
