These volumes lay the foundation for each R/3 phase-from installation to full production. There is no better way to save you time while making you productive as quickly as possible. In a relaxed, easy-to-read style, the step-by-step instructions become your personal R/3 tutor. In fact, many of the chapters act as tutorials by illustrating one good example of a particular topic. Screen shots show you exactly what you will see, what to enter, and where to click. Better yet, the information you will find is great for both the technical and non-technical user.
These volumes also serve as invaluable cross-referencing tools. Each chapter tells you exactly where you can find additional information about the tasks that you are completing. Chapters in this manual are cross- referenced with other SAP sources, such as CD-ROM-based R/3 Basis Knowledge Products, Online help, and Basis training courses.
Since a quick reference cannot cover every topic, we have attempted to isolate the most frequently performed system administration tasks. When you scan the table of contents and you will see that this is by no means an all-inclusive reference. What you will see are chapters about the tasks you perform on a regular basis as an SAP Administrator such as... -Database backups -Changing user passwords -Defining background jobs
Regardless, whether you are a new user, consultant, trainer, or experienced administrator, you will want to have R/3 System Administration Made Easy at your fingertips.
Here is what you will find in these volumes... -The most commonly performed tasks -Clear instructions with a good example of each task -Tips and Tricks from experienced consultants -Information that is an excellent training supplement -Information for technical and non-techi-dcal users
You will not find... -Information pertaining to advanced or complex R/3 configurations -Information that replaces training -Excessive theoretical information -- SAP Labs, Inc. R/3 Simplification Group

A Must-Have Reference for SAP BASIS Admins,
By A Customer
This review is from: System Administration Made Easy 3.1 H (Paperback)
If you are the BASIS Administrator (SAP terminology for the system administrator) of an SAP 3.1H system then you *need* this book. The company I work for started an SAP project thinking that the already overworked network admin could take over being the BASIS admin as well. Once we got three months behind schedule it fell to me (as the next most knowledgeable person for our db/os platform -- NT/MS SQL) to take over. Not having experience with SAP this would have been a near-impossible task without a reference like this. S.A.M.E 3.1H covers not only relevent procedures but gives you some background as well (important when management decides to cut corners by not implementing the 'recommended' approach). In the few cases where our own staff or implementation partners took issue with something in this book, experience generally proved the book to be correct. Considering the breadth of the SAP system and the considerable knowledge required to be an effective BASIS admin, this book is easily the best SAP training value there is. It includes detailed step-by-step procedures and checklists for some tasks that would otherwise be pretty difficult, and also goes over day to day monitoring of the health and security of your SAP installation. While it is very helpful to take the formal SAP BASIS training (as I eventually got) this is the reference that you'll be pulling out over and over. Note that there are different System Administration Made Easy guides for different versions of SAP. While we are still on 3.1H we've already got the later versions on-site to prepare for upgrading and to understand the differences from the BASIS admin's point-of-view.
