5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CD I HAVE BOUGHT IN A LONG TIME!!!
This CD is seriously one of the best I have heard in a long time. From "Suite Pea" all the way to "P.L.U.C.K.", this an energizing audio rollercoaster. This band is political at times, making you think (Rage Against the Machine), while at others, they are more, well, System of a Down-ish, I guess! They are just so original that I never get tired of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, Then Pretty Bad
Sugar and War. That's all you need. Then it would be a great album. Plus, they rock!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CD I HAVE BOUGHT IN A LONG TIME!!!, February 27, 2001

They are just so original that I never get tired of listening to the CD's sweet tunes. Whether it's frontman Serj Tankian's distinctly original voice, or guitarist Daron Malakian's ultra-fast, ultra-cool riffs and slides, this CD will keep you glued to your stereo. Just one more example of how distinct their sound is; at a friend's house several days ago, he had bought the Dracula 2000 soundtrack, and when he played the S.O.A.D. song, I could tell it was them instantly. Same goes for the cover CD, "Nativity in Black."

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised, May 4, 2000
This review is from: System of a Down (Clean) (Audio CD)
I bought System of a Down thinking that there were going to be no more than 2 good songs on it. I was pleasantly surprised by this CD. I first heard of them when I saw them at a Limp Bizkit concert in Peoria, IL. They were a great show, though they were just an opening band. Every song on the CD is excellent but my favorite is "spiders."

5.0 out of 5 stars a group with some meaning and depth, June 24, 2000

In today's culture full of boy bands and music with no purpose or depth, system fo a down delivers an enjoyable CD that makes u think about things and how they exist. System of a down does a great job when it comes to being creative through their mad skills with insturments and their superb lyrics. I don't see this band fitting in the boring norm of today but rather standing out as a unique blend of good music. I would reccomend this CD to people who arent scared to think when they listen to music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful messages, great originality, April 20, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: System of a Down (Clean) (Audio CD)
First off, I just wanna say that if you don't like screaming or shouting, you won't enjoy this album. After thoroughly listening to this selftitled debut and the new release known as Toxicity, I have determined that this band has two different sides. On this CD, their lyrics and music are driven basically by worldwide issues. (Examples: religion, politics) Obviously, they are angry by some subjects of their songs and their anger is expressed through Serj Tankian in the form of screaming and shouting. I'm just saying that to clarify that there is a reason for their rage. Now System's other side is expressed on Toxicity. That CD doesn't have nearly as much anger as this debut. It is showing that the band has a soft, melodic side to them that might be more enjoyable to some fans. While the meaning of some songs might be hard to figure out, they are just fun to listen to. An example would be the catchy tune known as "Cubert". And I know the lyrics are explicit but that's just another of the many things you have to cope with when listening. Overall, this is a great album and I can't wait for their third release!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best band and cd of all time, July 11, 2000

This is without a doubt the best cd that i have ever heard. Every single song on this cd is just as awsome as the one before it. It's really unfair that they don't get the recognition they deserve where as a stupid band like Limp Bizkit gets a tremendous amount of recognition just because they hang aroung with Korn.

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad for a 1st attempt, April 18, 2008
This review is from: System of a Down (Clean) (Audio CD)
this album is the kind of cd you can annoy your neighbors with and enjoy it. its got interesting guitar riffs and a signature sound not many bands can match. my favorites are suite-pee, sugar, suggestions, spiders, war, darts, and PLUCK. enjoy this classic album. i sure did (even though it took a few years).

4.0 out of 5 stars This album is an interesting start, March 17, 2008
This review is from: System of a Down (Clean) (Audio CD)
This album was an interesting start to a talented band. This is noticably different than any other album made by system of a down, but not in a bad way. The album has a much more raw sound than anything the band has made since. The raw energy that the album captures as part of what makes it so unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome cd...by a great band, February 28, 2003
This review is from: System of a Down (Clean) (Audio CD)
First off..ive been hearing this band since i first heard them back in 95'...Before this cd came out. So when they finally got signed by American Recordings..i couldnt wait for this cd to come out. This whole damn cd rocks...its bar none their best cd..but since they only have 2 albums out..the best is yet to come. I favor this one over Toxicity because..i dont get tired of listening to it. Dont get me wrong, Toxicity is great also..but after hearing those songs getting played to death on the radio..its refreshing to pop this cd in and rock out, to some great songs. Anyways, this cd is underrated big time...one of the best rock cd's to come out in the 90's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in a long time, June 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: System of a Down (Clean) (Audio CD)
And we have a new uncrowned king! Truly, amongst all the recent MTV pimpled teen stars and the feminism growing across the almighty America, a group like "System of A Down" feels like a breath of fresh air. They're not as mellow as Tool, Staind, Lifehouse trio, and at the same time their heaviness does not choke the music. System of a down incorporates in itself excellent lyrics (written by vocalist Tankian, watch for his new book of poems), aggressive political satire and cynism a-la "Rage Against..." plus bone-crushing heavy music and roaring vocals.

I cannot wait for the new release of this Armenian band, and I know it won't be a repetition of a disappointing "StaticX - Machine" album.
