1.0 out of 5 stars A poorly written and dated system., May 21, 2009
This review is from: System Guide (Amazing Engine Rule Booklet, Am1/2700) (Paperback)
I recently purchased the core rules for amazing engine due to the nostalgia of a TSR product I never got my hands on back in the day as well as the incredibly cheap price. I did not have very high expectations for an RPG that failed and went out of print over a decade ago. Even with the bar set so low, i was still very disappointed. The system is very clunky, poorly explained and has low production value even for an early nineties RPG. The base concept of porting one core idea of a character from setting to setting is appealing but poorly executed. If you have played almost any other successful RPG released this decade, you will be disappointed. Buy this only if you are a collector or really like this sytem. If you are looking for a multi-genre system, check out True 20, D20, Savage worlds or gurps . All of them offer the ability to use the same system in any genre with slicker production value and a much much better core system. Also a word of warning. The product description states that the book is 210 pages. It is not. It is about 25 pages in length. I will give the Amazon store that sold it to me credit though. They did price it fairly and shipped it promptly.
