The problem with this software is in the packaging. What you are buying is a license to use the software for one year. But that fact is revealed in an almost illegible 6-point type (white letters against a broken, half-tone gray background). The manufacturer, obviously, hopes you'll pay for the product before you discover that it's calendar-constrained. I discovered this after I got home; the merchant readily refunded the full purchase price because he couldn't see it either even though I told him what he was looking for. The pertinent text really is that miniscule. Iolo means to hide this information, and they are very successful at doing so.

I bought and used System Mechanic 6 two years ago and it created instability on my system that technical support apparently gave up on. More than once they told me they were elevating the problem to a higher level for solution and I never heard from them again. In frustration, I removed the program and tried something else. This year, I tried System Mechanic 8 on a new and different computer, thinking that they may have made improvements, and I really wanted to use some good PC maintenance routines. Unfortunately, same instability and same poor customer service. Both through their email support and phone support all they could do was send me basic knowledge base articles. No useful help at all.

I have been using System Mechanic Professional for several years now. I currently have three laptops and a desktop and this software is a Godsend!
It's not difficult to set up the firewall and utilities during the installation process. This software is capable of downloading virus updates every hour and displays ANY problem on it's home screen.

To the individuals that rated this product low : (1) you did not invest the time to understand or set up the software OR (2) you are computer illiterate.
Iolo's firewall is amazing because it does not conflict with my Windows and wireless router firewall.
Occasionally, Iolo will send me half price renewal promotions which is very generous.
What else can I say? I'm very happy with this product!

The System Mechanic Professional is the best product I have invested in. My computer would freeze when I would start it up, but now with the System Mechanic Professional it doesn't freeze up. I am so glad that I invested in this product. I thought I was going to have to buy a new hard drive for my laptop but since using this product I won't have to buy a hard drive.

This software really speeds up your computer and gets rid of bugs. I have run it for more than two years; since System Mechanic 6 (now running version 8.5) on three different Windows XP PCs. It gets rid of the rubbish and optimises the settings.

On my old laptop I'm only running 768Mb RAM and I still get decent fast performance for word processing, email and and surfing the net. So SM 8.5 is an alternative to a RAM upgrade and gives you more useful life out of an old machine. One way to think about it is that it gets my XP machines working so well that I've never had to suffer Vista!

I've read the poor reviews talking about installation problems and poor service. I can honestly say I have never had any difficulties on my three machines. SM 6 used to make you wait while it was working, but SM8 and higher work in the background so you don't notice it is installed. I use it with Avast anti virus and Comodo firewall and never have any problems. Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes at start up while it tweaks the registry but that is the only downside I have noticed. It's not much to suffer for the benefits that the software brings.

When it comes to keeping your computer in top shape, there are products that offer to keep your computer running smooth but none i have seen so far match System Mechanic as for automated tasks and the ability to do manual task to keep your system running fast and efficient along with anti-virus and firewall included in the Pro version. I personally advise everyone to use System Mechanic and the price is affordable from such sites as amazon.com.You won't be sorry with the outcome of this product.
