of excellent room filling pop/rock. This isn't my favorite Earlimart album because I prefer the ones that have more of a mix of rock/mellow. This one definitely tends toward the mellow side but it is a gorgeous album. If you are new to Earlimart I would say start with their album Mentor Tormentor and work in both directions from there. It won't be long before you are back here to buy this one to complete your collection.

My first exposure to Earlimart was through their album Treble and Tremble back in 2004. This was there 2nd official full length album and I was instantly blown away. Song after song of experimental and electronic crunch mixed with an almost shoegaze pop sensibility. This band has long stayed my favorite local Los Angeles artist (though they did not perform very often) for many years. Their albums have slowly transitioned a bit away from the electronic sound into a more straight ahead dreamy indie pop (while still retaining the electronic elements as a side note) but they always retained the quality and dreaminess that their sound has always had. During one tour they even include a string section which fit perfectly somehow with their sound.

Now we have System Preferences (which is their first album to have a vinyl release as well. Finally!). This album is extremely good. It's rare to be able to listen to an album from start to finish, without wanting to skip a track, and you are able to do that with this one. It is definitely a little more accessible than some of the earlier albums, but that is not due to a lack of quality. It is within the bands growth that they are able to do more with a slight minimalist approach. This album is a good jumping off point to check them out. If you are into bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, Grandaddy, and Elliot Smith, you will be an instant fan. This album is worth getting on Vinyl if you have a record player.

They've been refining their dreamy, druggy sound for several records now and this is just perfection. I'm a fan for life.
