This product was recommended on a DIY forum for repairing exactly what I faced - an exterior door with rotted jambs at the bottom despite being protected by a storm door. (Why makers of exterior doors don't use treated wood for their jambs is another issue... In any case, I did what the forum moderator suggested - cut away several inches of decay down to good wood, installed a few wood screws in the good wood to act as anchors, and when the Scuplwood arrived, found it very easy to work with - like modeling clay. You take equal parts of the two components and mix them by kneading - very easy. The putty is supposed to cure in four hours so you have plenty of time for working it. It was fairly hard after four hours, but I would suggest waiting a full 24 before reinstalling anything that might be put under stress. The newly painted door looks good as new - saved me from buying a new door. Also, this quart kit of epoxy putty would easily have repaired six or eight more doors with the same problem, and since the epoxy components are in separate sealed tubs, I imagine it will last quite a while for future projects.

this product is exactly what i need. Repaired a rotten out area of around 10cm X 8cm on my kitchen cabinet door. Subsequently, i was able to attach a hinge to the repaired area and it was able to withstand the constant opening and closing of the cabinet door for 1 month. Keeping my fingers crossed that it can last longer than that

System Three 406-375 1-Quart SculpWood Moldable Epoxy Putty QuikKitAs a full-time professional remodeling carpenter and handyman, I do a lot of work fixing the rotted out areas on people's houses. I use Skulpwood in places where replacing the entire assembly would be more costly than addressing a single damaged component. Examples are exterior window sills or the base of columns. To get this stuff to adhere well, you need to use it in conjunction with liquid epoxy as an initial bonding agent. Without this it might appear that the Skulpwood is defective. It's not, you need to build a system that will create a quality finished product, starting with removing the damaged wood, applying an initial sealant/adhesive (epoxy), inserting this product, letting it harden, sanding/carving it to the desired shape and finish painting. This stuff works great!

The putty stays well in the damaged spots of my deck wood floor but it does not absorb stain. Thus, its own color sticks out on the wood flow of my deck. I will wait another year until the putty ages and then will try again to stain it .

I purchased this product based on Amazon.com reviews and did not have the same success as other reviewers. The product simply did not stick to my freshly sanded and clean base wood surface. I even tried drilling some holes to give it extra purchase... no go. Makes me suspicious of the other reviews. I returned the product for a refund.

The only downside is that it is expensive. It is easy to mix, apply, sand and paint. Just remove as much of the old rotten wood as you can and use a wood hardener prior to application. I really like the consistency of the mixture. It is very malleable yet holds its shape well. I refuse to use anything else. You won't be disappointed.

Over the years I have tried using all kinds of products which are advertised to repair wood. This is the only product that really works as advertised. I tear our all the damaged wood, paint the area with System Three Rot-fix, let the harden for a day and then use this product to finish the job. It's sands well and is easy to paint. Job done and it looks great and lasts. I first started using this about 2 years ago and never had a problem, once it's fixed - it stays fixed. I use a brush to paint the Rot-fix into vertical surfaces that are being repaired because it is a liquid. This Moldable Epoxy putty sticks to vertical surfaces without a problem, but I do give it a day to cure before I start sanding. Being a two part epoxy, it does cure itself and does not need sunlight or heat to cure. I will be buying more as time goes on.
