PLEASE NOTE: This book will also include access to 30 instructional videos which will be released online later in 2011. This is the first complete training manual for Systema, the Russian Martial Art developed for use by the elite ex-Soviet Special Operation Units of Spetsnaz. Nowhere else has the previously often classified material found in these pages been collated in one place for civilian use. Many personal anecdotes and experiences throughout the book make for an entertaining, humorous and informative read. In the typically unorthodox fashion of Systema itself, this is no dry text book but an easy-to-use teaching aid and a very human study. • Includes previously classified scientific information that relates to the underlying principles of military and sports science. • The latest scientific research on supposedly “superhuman abilities” and how to easily develop these in simple and effective ways. • Learn how to perform three of the “mini superpowers” in no more than 30 minutes each, to satisfy yourself that the concepts in this book are NOT hype but just pure science, repeatable and learnable by anyone willing to do the work. • Learn the more powerful abilities often considered “impossible” by most hard-core martial artists until these are performed on them. • Easy to follow explanations on the basic principles of military sports science and how they relate to real-life survival of combat. • Useful for anyone involved not just in martial arts, but any sports in general and, in fact, most human activities, as the principles presented are applicable not just to Systema but to any practical human endeavour.

Giuseppe Filotto has been involved in martial arts from childhood, achieving a 2nd Dan black belt in Shotokan Karate-Do (WSKF) and working as an armed close protection services operative for several years in South Africa. He has been training in Systema exclusively since 2003 and established Way of Systema in 2009, currently the largest Systema organisation in London, where he teaches and trains. He is a clinical hypnotist and author and worked for years in the financial and legal aspects of construction services. You can find out more about him at his online blog: www.gfilotto.com or about Systema in London at: www.wayofsystema.com
I have written three books so far, each of them a bit strange and right on the edge of the science we understand to date: The Face on Mars back in 1995 (non-fiction) to be re-released later in 2013, dealing with the idea that Mars used to be inhabited by intelligent life. It sounds unbelievable, but the factual evidence is pretty strong and has only gotten stronger in the last 16 years. Systema: The Russian Martial System deals with this previously unknown martial system and demystifies a lot of the hard science that lies behind some seemingly miraculous feats that good exponents of it can do. The incredible results are real, and the science behind it is exposed here for the first time. My last book, Overlords of Mars - Inception is my first novel and the first in a series. It is obviously science fiction, but with a twist, being based on solid and factual history as well as real (but mostly suppressed) advanced technology that is not commonly known about, so although the work is fiction, it exposes some of the strangest and most bizarre elements of human history. An advanced reader copy of this is currently available as an experiment in publishing. The fully edited version will be out in late 2012 or early 2013. The Author's notes at the back give you some information on the real facts as well.
I have had an interesting life, living in several different countries and doing various jobs. I have had a successful career as the owner of a computer hardware dealership, a close protection services operator, and for the last 8 years or so as a Quantity Surveyor in London, mostly for large projects, totaling some £170 million over the period. I also enjoy working as a clinical hypnotist in my spare time and have founded Way of Systema in 2009, currently the largest Systema school in London, (and possibly the UK now) where I train and teach regularly. If you enjoy my writing, please buy lots of my books, research shows it increases your sex appeal. You may also want to visit my blog at www.gfilotto.com.
...from the title and the table of context i thought this book would be something like Kadochnikov's works written for the first time in english, but no...there are no explanations of the bio-mechanical processes that systema uses to break structure or anything else substantial... ...what hurts the book is written on the back: "many personal anecdotes and experiences throughout the book make for an entertaining, humorous and informative read..." ...the title of the book should be: "my many opinions of systema as they relate to my extraordinary life and experiences with karate." ...every chapter sounds like its going to be good...but they all start with a vague description of an exercise or ability "to save us from overly scientific jargon" of course... and then immediately the chapter goes into the authors personal account of his telepathic childhood...or his rambo bodyguard days... ...if your looking for an opinionated new age take on this authors grandiose self-important image of himself, then this book is for you... ...but if your looking for something substantial like Kadochnikov's works or anything remotely scientific on russian combat experiments or bio-mechanics...this $80 personal journal isn't it...
Being that this is one of the few written works on Systema and that I'm a huge fan of RMA, it was a no brainer that I had to buy it. I would have to agree with some of the 1 star reviewer in that it's a little subjective (for lack of a better term). Shotokan Karate is referenced every few pages. The first 220 pages or so deal soley with Systema (refer to the table of contents). The rest of the book IMHO gets a bit off topic at times. As far as the price, I think $70 to $80 would be better spent on Systema DVDs. If your a die hard fan of the Russian Martial Arts (like me) by all means buy the book, judge for yourself. I don't belong to any Systema orginization and I'm not trying to slander the book or the author. I'm just trying to give an honest review.
This book is simply amazing. Honestly it is an eye opener for me. This book, not only great study material for any martial art practitioner (not only systema practitioner), but overall could serve as generalized concept of modern "martial art" system . Author employs a lot of scientific approaches and concepts to describe specifics associated with modern martial art system - which in my mind w/o any doubt make it "martial art" science.
I've started using concepts from this book, cause methods described in it, could easily be applied to my daily life and positively impact it. Highly recommend this book. Systema : The Russian Martial System
