I own a number of Patricia Cunningham's books. I use many of her techniques. But this book is the best of the "Making Words" series for teachers who want a 'systematic sequential' plan. Other Making Words books seem to be for better spellers. My students needed the careful pacing, beginning with predominately short vowels, that is found in this book. This is the book I use every day!

Systematic Sequential Phonics they use has proven to be a very valuable tool in teaching my ESE students the rules of phonics. They have come an amazingly long way using this book.

I love this book. I use it with second language learners and it is wonderful! I great way to spice up and review a phonics lesson. I highly recommend it!

I've used this with my classes through the years and the kids enjoy the activity and it challenges all the kids! Patricia Cunningham and all of her materials are amazing!

I first heard of this title at an inservice this summer and I am very pleased with this book. It is a great place to begin working with words and has many useful lessons, applications and strategies as well. I am a new first grade teacher moving up from 2 yrs Kinder and 5 Pre-k. It was just what I was looking for.

Great resourse. Similar to Making Words 1st Grade. This book can be used as a resource in kindergarten, first grade, and for any child struggling with phonics.

I teach ESL and literacy for second graders,and this book has been excellent. We use letter tiles and each child spells out the words. I find that it reinforces basic sight words, while building on each word. I especially like the "move the letters around" and the secret word. It takes between 5 and 10 minutes to do a lesson. I find it's a great way to begin my class.

Great mini-lessons, VERY systematic! Students enjoy the lessons and feel successful at at all levels.

This book has been amazing! I have already got my money's worth it is an excellent resource for any classroom teacher to have!
