Geisler's Complete Four double-volume Masterpiece! Outstanding.,
This review is from: Systematic Theology (4 vols.) (Hardcover)
Geisler's complete masterpiece! Volume 1 covers Polegommena; the existence of God; truth's inevitability; divine revelation; and Scripture's origin and inspiration.Volume 2 addresses Theology Proper; God's attributes; Angelology; Creation; Transcendance; and His working in history. Volume 3 examines sin; the affects of sin; depravity's extent; its defeat by Christ; Faith; Salvation; Salvation history, and the assurance of heaven. Volume 4 studies church history and administration of man; the return of Christ; eschatology and end-times theories. 2624 pages total, four hardcover double-volumes. Norman Geisler seems to be a very polarizing influence as of late. Some claim he is a hyper-calvinist, and thus should not be taken seriously. Some claim he is Arminian or worse, and should not be listened to. If you read his writings you will see he is neither (which is why neither side of that question really likes him!). He is a Moderate Calvinist, if we must use labels. But, if we do, we miss the value of his writing. Geisler is Thomistic Philosopher and very orthodox in his views. He is a Biblicist in his thought, which is why he is ao challenging. And he thinks each position through deeply, and this is why you will not see him taking the simple road (to please either Calvinists or Arminians). Why read Geisler? Do it NOT because you will agree with everything he says. I know I don't. But I agree with about 90% of it... and I don't believe 90% of what I say, so that is pretty good. :) Seriously, read geisler to MAKE YOU THINK and to MAKE YOU BE ABLE TO THINK CLEARLY about your positions. Hey, perhaps you will change one or two. But whether you do or you don't, you will be glad he stretched your thinking so you could better articulate your thoughts. Case: This evening in AWANA's, our group commander got a question from a 6th grader about Christian humbleness and meakness and war. Brilliant question from this child. Our teacher couldn't really answer this with any ability. NOW: Do we really think our world is NOT asking these questions? Of course they are. A 6th grade boy is, so are Jr High's, and so are High Schoolers, and so are College kids... Point: when we can't handle these everyday questions, no wonder we lose the battle for these young lad's and lass's mind. This is why we need to read books like this: Systematic Theology from a man that doesn't talk in just "theological abstraction" but in real terms that answer real questions. Outstanding work!

By George (San Antonio, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Systematic Theology (4 vols.) (Hardcover)
After being in the christian world for well over 40 years I finally stumbled on to this four volume set of Systematic Theology and must say its worth the money, unlike so many other theology books I have purchased. You may not agree with him totally but he makes you think and evaluate your belief system. Well written and just a pleasure to read.

A Good Foundation for Any Christian,
This review is from: Systematic Theology (4 vols.) (Hardcover)
If you are serious about wanting to know what you believe and why you believe it, then I would highly recommend buying this 4 volume set. Geisler does an excellent job as both a scholar and as a theologian. He shows you what the Church fathers said about each topic that he covers in all four volumes. He does an outstanding job in showing you all of the scripture that supports each view and (when applicable) opposing views. He then shows you how he views each issue. Whenever objections may occur, he addresses each objection with great detail and accuracy. His approach is really a "leave no stone unturned" approach. No Christian Library is complete without this 4 volume set. Buy it, you will not have any regrets.
