How Does it Work?
The Gatekeeper Pico is a USB key-sized mini-computer whose sole function is to run Yoggie’s "Pentagon Level" security suite, a 12 point protection system designed to replace all of your existing security software.

In addition to protection from viruses, the Gatekeeper Pico weeds out spam, protects against phishing and spoofing, blocks spyware and offers intrusion detection and prevention. It includes a firewall as well as parental content control and transparent email and web proxies. Its proprietary, patent-pending Layer-8 Security Engine protects the user from unknown attacks, new viruses, spyware and worms, and does not require virus signatures. Yoggie’s patent-pending Multi-Layer Security Agent coordinates between the different security components to provide early detection of new attacks as they begin their operation. The documentation for this product is the most poorly written I have ever come across and I am a software tech support guy so I know a fair amount about what I am doing. After figuring out what the install guide was trying to get me to do, I got the thing installed but it wasn't working. I called tech support. The play this message saying that you are first in line for about 15 minutes then they let you leave a message and then you are kicked off. The trouble is that a.) they never call you back and b.) every time you call they play the "you are first in line" non-sense.

After two days I was able to get through to them. The tech support person barely spoke english but eventually concluded that my software was not up to date. She had me update the software and in the process my password became corrupted. There is no way that I forgot my password but when I try to do anything with Yoggie it says my password is invalid.

Now I can't get on the internet with Yoggie and the software it installed on my PC won't let me get online without the Yoggie. My computer is dead in the water and completely unable to do anything on the internet.

Do yourself a favor before you buy this product. Try calling their tech support number and see what happens. You don't need to take my word for it.

I really can not review the performance of this item since it always caused my computer to reboot constantly. I tried three times to install the product and it did seem to work until the next time I would reboot. The computer would then stay in a reboot loop until I would stop it, go into safe mode, and do the recovery to a preinstall.

Because of slow internet access and Yoggie stopping access to any site login page I've stopped using this expensive product. I've literally emailed back and forth with their tech support 51 times over 4 months. Other websites and professional reviewers have noted and I've seen myself that it will slow down your internet connection. Skype and things like that probably won't work after upgrading to Yoggie. These are the issues we've had with the product (this is using the most current 1.4.0 version of firmware)

1) device needs to be disabled to authenticate to any website. Yoggie will not let you into the login page of most websites, google docs, yahoo email, etc.

2) The device attempts to autoupdate itself for virus signatures and firmware. I've yet to see this work successfully. In the past several days the device has blocked all internet access while it was trying to do an autoupdate. We needed to disable the device, switch to corporate mode, and then have it try to update itself. It took 6 emails over 2 months to get this firmware updated. The reason we really wanted it updated was to take advantage of new features like whitelists so we could use netflix instant view, website authentication, etc. The firmware upgrade though does not solve these problems.

3) it will stop the processing of items like instant view movies from the internet on sites such as netflix.

4) tech support is inconsistant. One tech support stated there was no way for yoggie to manually update it's firmware, and mentioned this string of reboots to try to get it working. The next week, someone sent a file called yoggieupdater.exe which was supposed to do the update. Neither worked.

5) I'm really not confident that the device can keep your computer safe. You need to constantly disable the device for various reasons, and at that point your wide open to attack. And after the device is reenabled, it has no native ability to look for spyware or other malware installed on your PC, just to block new attacks.

6) Tech support will not acknowledge any of your concerns. Even when you look on major software review websites and see anyone who actually did a hands on review of the product had problems accessing things like email, and it's pretty much everyones opinion this is going on, the tech support people say "works fine for me", and then 6 months later release a patch which actually is supposed to fix the issue.

It seems like an underfunded company with a good idea, but simply can't afford the research to provide a good, reliable product. Instead they are simply looking for new features, regardless of how reliably it works.
The end of this is that I'm going to have to disable this product and buy something else. I'm by the way not a technical novice.
