You can’t truly understand Systems Analysis and Design (SAD) by only reading about it; you have to do it. In Systems Analysis and Design, Third Edition, Dennis, Wixom, and Roth offer a hands-on approach to actually doing SAD. Building on their experience as professional systems analysts and award-winning teachers, these three authors capture the experience of actually developing and analyzing systems. They focus on the core set of skills that all analysts must possess––from gathering requirements and modeling business needs, to creating blueprints for how the system should be built.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rarely opened it June 5, 2014

The content that this book covers is so simple that a book for this course shouldn't even be required. However, the information in the book is simple and easy to understand. I only opened it a few times to help me recall the difference between an activity diagram and a sequence diagram.

For my class, the professor did assign problems from the book, so I'm glad I got it. The only strong suit this book has is the price, you can't beat how cheap it is, granted it is an older version. There are a few differences between this book and the newer version. The authors combined a few chapters, so I recommend getting with another student to make sure you're on the right chapter. If you have to buy this book, get this one and not the new version, the updated version is not worth your money.

If you need to learn UML this is a good place to start. Its easy to read and well written and most improtantly pretty comprehensive of an introduction. It is however an introduction, you will need get another book to take it to the next level of doing it in the real world.
