Generally this charger works well. It does what it says. In practice, I've found a few things less than ideal. First, it does not sense when 9V batteries are fully charged. The instructions simply say "Don't charge a 9V battery for more than 16 hours". However, when charging cylindrical batteries (AAA, AA, C and D) a sensor will detect when the battery is charged, eliminating the risk of overcharging. The other major limitation is that while there are 4 battery slots, there are only 2 charging sensors, which means batteries must be charged in pairs. The thing that makes this most undesirable is that each battery pair must have the same level of charge. If you only have 1 dead battery you want charged, you can't pair it up with a fully charged battery (which will overcharge the full battery, risking damage, and undercharge the dead battery). It would be less of an issue if the charger had a "discharge" feature, but it does not.

Its a nice and compact unit, and being able to use it in the car is a definite plus. Despite all the electronic gabbedigook circuit control features, charging of the 9V batteries is hit and miss: The unit will NOT shut off if the battery is fully charged. Two of the four channels for AA and AAA batteries do not work correctly. A few minutes after inserting four dead batteries, two of the channels indicate the batteries are fully charged, and the other two go on for hours. But when I switch positions of the batteries, they charge again for hours. Obviously something in the control circuit is not quite right here!

I am the mom of 3 children with a lot of toys (including 3 Wii remotes) that require frequent battery changes.I have had this battery for 4 months. It charges AA and AAA batteries quickly and never gets hot. The estimated charge time on the D batteries is wrong. It took me over 24 hours to charge my D batteries but I haven't had to recharge them yet, so it seems to hold the charge well. I took a point off also for the fact that I don't feel comfortable charging my 9V batteries with it - the indicator will not change to green if fully charged and you have to time it and then take them out. I don't trust the recommended time listed and there is no way to tell when its fully charged. I don't have rechargeable 9V batteries yet though so for me, this product serves my needs and is still going strong.

I bought this charger because my trashcan uses 4 C-size batteries and I use AA in my remote controls, mouse, etc. Rather than continuing to buy and have to recycle old batteries, I decided to get some Tenergy rechargables and then started looking for a battery charger. I found this one and it was a decent price, plus you could charge multiple size batteries at once, and didn't have to always charge a certain # of batteries at once (like some limit you to). I like that it has the indicator to let you know when the charge is complete, as well as an auto-shutdown feature so that you don't overcharge a battery. The adapter is rather heavy and bulky, but the charger itself is pretty lightweight. So far it has worked well for over a year and I have no complaints.

It's good to have such charger to be used in the car or RV. Being an electical engineer I had to test it using different battery sizes and compare it to my original Energizer charger that plugs in regular house hold outlet. I found out that even when the LED don't work correctly, the charger is actually charging. It seems to have a smart charging circuitry that when I drained the batteries all the way, it'll start charging them with higher current and slowly drop the current as it's being charged. The initial high current charge (was 800MA on AA) will get the batteries hot, so I'm not sure if this will shorten the battery life. But the charge time is much faster than my other charger that only charges with 300 MA current. I would keep the cover open so the heat can disepate faster. If I didn't have one, I'll still buy it.

This recharge unit works well, but not 100%. I have had it charge a pair of batteries for several hours and then still be indicating that they are not charged. I left them on overnight and still the same red light. I moved sides that those batteries where charging on and still the same result. Not believing that my new batteries where bad I checked them on another recharge unit we have. They where good according to that unit. I replaced them into this unit and played around with how they set in the unit. That made a difference! It seems that sometimes you don't get 100% connection within the unit. This is the reason for only a four star review. Other than that I love this recharge unit! We use all different sized batteries in our house and this unit recharges them all. I would recommend this but with the guidance of making sure the batteries have a good connection. I have not had the need to use it in the car so I am unable to comment on the use while on the move.

I have had this charger for about 18 months and I don't use it very frequently maybe once a week, but the transformer just stopped working the other day. Luckily I have another transformer from another electronic device that works, but the one that it came with should not have failed so soon. If I had used the charger more frequently or left the transformer plugged in all the time then it would have failed earlier and been covered under warranty. I emailed the company and they said they couldn't do anything for me because the warranty was past. NO product should fail just after the warranty! That is a horrible business model for the long term.
