Product Description

This true story begins in an Arizona prison, with T-Bone showing up at Shaun Attwood’s cell door completely blocking the sunlight out – due to his size, almost 6½ feet, 350 pounds, the prisoners called T-Bone John Coffey after the giant convict in the movie The Green Mile. Noticing the broad scars on T-Bone’s body, Shaun asked T-Bone if he’d been in a fight. Every single scar represented a different life-and-death fight story. But not only was T-Bone standing up for himself, he said it was his Christian duty to protect the young inmates who were getting raped by older ones. T-Bone was risking his own life going up against rapists, using formidable fighting skills acquired as a US Marine. Over time, Shaun and deeply-spiritual T-Bone became good friends. The contents of this book range from T-Bone’s fight stories – including some of the prison rapists he smashed – to the advice he gave to Shaun about staying mentally strong and keeping away from drugs: “No matter how cool it may seem, drugs will only lead to the police, prison or death!”

5.0 out of 5 stars T-Bone Kicks Some Serious Butt, April 17, 2011
This review is from: T-Bone: Jon's Jail Journal 2 (Kindle Edition)
After reading Shaun Attwood's jail memoir Hard Time, I wanted to read more by him, so I ordered his 2 ebooks, Jon's Jail Journal and T-Bone.

T-Bone goes up against some seriously violent criminals - and doesn't always win, as you'll find out in the book. Perhaps the most powerful part of the book is the way that T-Bone is willing to step up to help young prisoners who are getting extorted and raped with no one backing him up. He believes no harm will ever come to him because God has his back! It's not like T-Bone just goes in, knocks these rapist guys out and comes out unharmed. The scars on T-Bones body are testimonials to the brutality of these fights, during some of which he is almost killed by various inmates with weapons such as rocks in socks. The bottom line is that T-Bone's true story set in prison is incredible! It's told mostly in T-Bone's own words in conversations with Shaun. This story would make the ultimate prison gladiator movie. It is a story of good triumphing over evil, and carries a strong anti-drugs message from T-Bone.

5.0 out of 5 stars T Bone - Spiritual Warrior, February 12, 2012
This review is from: T-Bone: Jon's Jail Journal 2 (Kindle Edition)
If you liked Hard Time you will like T Bone which is the letters sent by T- Bone (a spiritually motivated, hard as nails inmate, who stands up for himself and for inmates who are being raped/abused) to his friend Shaun Attwood, the centre figure in Hard Time. The book is a short but gripping read. It did leave me with one question. T Bone seems like a nice, courageous guy who has turned away from whatever got him into trouble in the first place. I do wonder though, as scary as he might be to have as an enemy I wonder if he might also have been a little scary to have as a friend?

Read the book - it is enjoyable and thought provoking in the sense of do we do everything we can to help others less fortunate/weaker than ourselves...and no the book doesn't sermonise, that is just my thought.

Danny

More About the Author

Raised in Cheshire, England, Shaun was the first from his family to go to university. He took his business degree to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked his way up to become a top-producing stockbroker, and then a millionaire day trader during the dot.com bubble.

But he also led a double life. An early fan of the Manchester rave scene, Shaun headed an organisation that threw raves and distributed Ecstasy. On May 16th 2002, a SWAT team knocked his door down.

He ended up in the jail run by Sheriff Joe Arpaio, where not only gang members but also guards were murdering prisoners. Shaun documented the conditions using a golf pencil sharpened on the door: dead rats in the food, the techniques he used to sleep with cockroaches crawling on him, gang mayhem and violence... His aunt smuggled his writing out of the jail, and his blog, Jon's Jail Journal, turned the international media spotlight on Arpaio's hellhole.

Facing a life sentence, Shaun entered a lengthy legal battle. After two years of being held on remand, Shaun was convicted of money laundering and drug dealing. He was sentenced to 9½ years, and served almost 6.

Shaun had only read finance books prior to his arrest. While incarcerated, he submerged himself in literature - reading over 1000 books, including many classics. By studying original texts in psychology and philosophy, he sought to better understand himself and his past behaviour.

Shaun was released in December 2007, and continues to campaign against Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He keeps Jon's Jail Journal going by posting stories mailed to him by his prison friends.

In July 2008, he won a Koestler award for a short story, which he read to an audience at the Royal Festival Hall.

Shaun presently lives by London, and talks to audiences of young people across the UK and Europe about his jail experiences and the consequences of getting involved in drugs and crime.

Shaun's life story is coming out as the English Shaun Trilogy, with Hard Time as the middle volume. The blog entries Shaun wrote from Arpaio's jail are available as an ebook titled Jon's Jail Journal.

Shaun is available for Skype discussions with book clubs.
