I actually received this free using reward points from my credit card, so I did not acquire from Amazon. However, I was curious to see how it stacked up against the competition, and seeing reviews here I had to put in my 2 cents.

First, the small size makes it handy. Because of my obsession with cooking, I have many appliances taking up room in the pantry. It was nice I could still fit this in with them. The way the basket and handle collapse is helpful, too. Everything is easily washable and dishwasher safe, especially because of it's size. The one con to the handy size is it requires me to check often that things aren't sticking together. But that's no reflection on T-Fal or the quality of the product - I would have the same problem with any similar size unit.

Second, the unit works really well. The marks for the temperature slider on front make it easy to remember how long different things have to cook. Learning that the lid has a built-in filter was a pleasant surprise, since I have filter the oil after almost every use. The instruction manual could use some work, but at least it gives enough information for me to know how to take care of the unit and handle the oil.

Ignore the negative reviews. One user complains the temperature gauge broke. But if this were happening frequently you'd see more complaints!!! I sympathize with this individual, but that does not justify an instant 1-star rating. I wonder if they called T-Fal support for help or replacement? It's a fact-of-life with manufactured goods, sometimes parts break or assembly isn't perfect. That's what warranties are for.

The other user has a slew of bad things to say about the size and weight of the unit, but gives no evidence of it performing bad. He merely rambles about the size, weight or construction - this is a clear example of ad hominem fallacy.

Overall, I really enjoy using this product. I will consider T-Fal in the future if I look for a bigger unit (frying 2 lbs. of chicken won't be enough when my girl gets bigger.)

This fryer does a great job and with the lid on - no messy cleanup!!! This could have been a 5 Star rating but the electrical cord is too short.

I received this unit as a gift. I live in tiny apartment in Manhattan so I don't need any kitchen appliance that will take my space, so I never thought I could have a fryer in my kitchen. I did not expect this small unit can fry well at all, but I was wrong. It really works well and extremely easy to use. Ultimately this item is easy to clean. If you are cooking for entire family, this item may not work but if you are a working person and living in a small space like me, you would love this item.

The perfect compliment to any kitchen. Easy to use, clean and store. Don't know how I got along without it.

I also have this T-Fal fryer and would not recommend this Fryer.
The Power cord is to short and my fryer is NOT cool to the touch! Also i have the problem, that when i close the lid during heating up or even frying, that the lid does not open anymore until the oil cooled down so i have to throw the produce i fried away because its either burned or soaked in grease! What a waste of money and like others said T=Fal should be ashamed to have something like this even on the market.

T-Fal should be ashamed of themselves for putting something like this out on the market. Anyone would have to crazy, to even atempt to put oil or shortening in it. When I first recieved this in the mail, the box was so light, I knew it had to be a mistake, and that they had sent the wrong thing by accident. Apon opening I was shocked and surprised to see that it was indeed T-Fal's "shotty", excuse for a deep fryer. I am not even exaturating when I say this is light as a feather, and reminds me of a childs toy. The thing that surprises me the most is, the reason why I bought this brand is because I just had to throw away my old one that I had bought in the 90's. I had it for about thirteen years, and loved it. It was a real QUALITY T-Fal deep fryer. Its easy to see how low T-Fal has fallen. VERY DISSAPOINTING.....To say the least. This product should truley be outlawed.....
