This is a well sized toaster being both lightweight and streamlined. It is easy to use, meaning that it's very intuitive. I only mention that as it's digital. The toasting bay is long enough to do 4 slices of toast, or 2 slices of "artisian" shaped breads. The bagel feature is great! The outside of the bagel is nicely warmed with the inside toasted. We're spoiled now from this toaster! The defrost setting also works well. It took me 2 or 3 tries to get the setting that we prefer, but I expected to do that with any new toaster. We've been using this toaster for about 2 weeks now without incident, it's easy to use, easy to clean up and toasts evenly and well. I don't know how to respond to others reviews that it's "slow" it seems normal to me.

Just arrived - I'm only posting because there's so little info on this toaster. As of today Amazon still has no image so I uploaded one direct from t-Fal's website. That's my good deed for the day.

This toaster has two long slots. It can easily fit 4 slices of bread and it may fit better in your kitchen than one of the huge 4-separate-slot toasters. Toasts nice and evenly so far (only had it a day so I'll update later). Seems average in toasting speed (why is everyone so obsessed with this?)

It's got a digital countdown timer which is very nice (when's my toast gonna be ready???!!!) Only a few simple controls and functions which is all you need. This could be my favorite toaster ever if it keeps doing it's basic job well.

<UPDATE> Still working after 6 months. It doesn't toast quite as evenly as I thought before but it's ok. LOVE the bagel function. To the commenter: yes it beeps when it's done -- but it's not too loud.</UPDATE>

Toaster does a great job, especially with bagels. The digital controls allow you to repeat the proper settings each time you use it -- no more guessing. The countdown timer lets you know how long it will be before the toast is ready. We've had other long-slot toasters (non-digital), but the T-Fal digital tops them. I'd buy it again.

At first, I got all caught up in comparing features and in reading all the bad reviews. Finally realized that every toaster had bad reviews and the matter of how long the toaster will last just cannot be determined at the front end of buying a toaster. I finally bought this toaster because it was recommended by Consumer Reports as their top pick, and I haven't been disappointed. It makes the best, most evenly toasted toast I think I've ever had. My only complaint is that it doesn't butter the toast and put it on my plate. This toaster is great. Buy it and spend your time on something more beneficial and important like I did when I finally came to the realization that I was buying a $40 toaster, not a $ 30,000+ new car. Good luck!

Purchased this toaster because it received a very good rating from Consumer Reports. Unpacked it, read and followed the instructions exactly. After running 3 cycles on the maximum setting of "8" per instruction booklet, let toaster cool, then tried toasting a piece of wheat bread on setting of "3". It started to smoke just as it popped up: one side of the toast was totally black, the other side only light brown. Tried it again with another piece of bread on the lowest setting of "1": one side of the bread was VERY dark brown, the other side very light brown. Aside from these major toasting problems, it throws out what seems like an extreme amount of heat (no surprise since it burns the bread even on the lowest setting), but almost to the point of seeming a little dangerous. I would make sure to have toaster far away from ANYTHING when using due to the heat output -- you can easily feel the heat from two to three feet away! In general, not at all impressed with the quality OR the workmanship -- am returning mine!

This 4-slice (or two very long slice) toaster is exactly what I was looking for. The shape and color are terrific, and the toasting choices meet all our needs; bagels, rolls, standard sliced bread all come out perfectly....but, give yourself a couple of days to play the numbers game in order to fully understand how the digital display works in relation to the color of the toast you want!!!

The T-Fal TT6802002 Digital Toaster is a great, relatively quick, little toaster that has a narrow profile making it easy to store on the counter. I use it primarily to toast bagels and bread machine vertical loaf bread. The long, deep, and wide slots are great for odd sized items, and the toaster lever has a nice solid feel as it latches.

The toaster gives very even and consistent results in part thanks to the digital settings. You need to hone in on the darkness number you prefer for a given item, but once you do the result are consistent batch to batch.

The digital bars count down to give you a status indication, but not an actual time until toasting is complete. This is still a fairly useful feature when timing the toast to be done with the rest of the meal. The reheat feature works well to rewarm toast if it was done too early.

The bagel function toast the split side and warms the outside. I have learned to love the results of this setting. Sesame bagel are delicious done this way, and all bagels seem to have a great texture using the bagel setting.

However, this brings me to an issue that should be considered when choosing the T-Fal digital toaster. The toaster holds 4 slice, but it is still only a 2 slot toaster. This means that if there are differing toasting preferences then you will still have to toast in separate batches.

The toast complete beep and slide out crumb tray are also a nice features.

The one aspect of the toaster I would change is the cord wrap. The cord wrap is located on the bottom of the toaster, but there is no provision for the plug. A cord lock notch on the plug is all they would have needed to add to make the cord wrap truly useful.

I recommend this toaster, but be aware of the 2 slot disadvantage if making toast for multiple people.

I got this toaster to replace my 11 year old Cuisinart which finally gave out. What a piece of garbage, I'll make a list:

1. Thanks to the brilliant engineering, not only will this thing burn your toast, the metal ring around the top gets extremely HOT and it will BURN you if you are not careful! This product should be recalled for safety!

2. The toast cooks totally uneven (I have to turn the bread around halfway through to get some decent color on both sides).

3. Who puts the power cord on the same side as the controls????

Buyer beware...

I always use vintage whenever possible mainly because they 'don't make em like they used to'. I had a used Sears 4 slot vintage toaster for about 8 years and one side just failed. After seeing a recent talk about fire safety and hazards in the home, I decided a new model toaster was best this time. I bought this toaster based on exhaustive reviews. I love love love the design. Two wide slots that accomodate my bagels, homemade bread and more,and slimmed down for space saving. That is such a smart design! I leave my toaster on the counter and like the black so that it is not as noticable.
It has the 'new' electrical smells the first use or two and I expect that is normal. I really like the digital display keeping you aprised of your toasting product and the time left till it is finished. It toasts like a dream too. Just right and very even. A much better job then the 5 pound Sears toaster did. The price was fair also. I'm surprised such a light weight appliance did such a great job, but I have to admit it surely met my expectations!

Consumer Reports listed this particular toaster model as their highest choice. I completely agree. Read the magazine article for more information. It was delivered expeditiously.
