It's a keeper,

...I would have asked for a George Foreman grill but I wanted something a little more versatile than that. After reading a few reviews on Amazon ...I decided I would like this one. I FINALLY used it in the last couple of days.Under the heating element is a pan you fill with water, this is also the drip tray. It eliminates any smoke when grilling. It takes a while to heat up but that was not a problem as I had other things to prepare. I overcooked my steak on it but it still tasted good (marinated in Italian dressing for an hour) and was juicy and tender. I think not having completely dry heat like a standard grill really helped and it did not smoke for me at all. The versatile part of this grill is that it also includes a skillet to interchange with the grill. So last night I made some potato pancakes on it, worked very well. I also thought that I could use the skillet part as a warmer if I needed to. It has a temperature setting on it, from low to high so you can adjust it to your needs say, lower for eggs, higher for potato pancakes, medium for steaks, etc... A couple of drawbacks, while you can clean the grill in the dishwasher, I cleaned it by hand because I didn't want to leave it sit in the dishwasher waiting for the next load and it wasn't an easy task. Yes, it has a non-stick surface but I think next time I will spray a little olive oil to make it clean up easier. The skillet part is easy to clean though. I probably would not use the skillet to cook bacon on, there's just not enough lip to contain that much fat. I think that's the biggest drawback, although I haven't tried to cook bacon on it. The surface area that is usable is 13 1/2" x 9" which is a decent size for an indoor grill. It's a sleek look so leaving it out on your counter is fine. If you don't want to leave it on your counter, it can be easily stored on its side in a cabinet but you need to put it in there correctly. Oh, and the other griddle or grill (which ever you are not using) stores underneath the water/drip pan smoothly. Would I recommend this product, you bet. It's a little pricey but the versatility was important to me so you really get your money's worth.

My mother-in-law got this for us a couple of years ago for Christmas. They have redesigned the feet, yet it is the same thing. I have grilled and used the skillet top and both have performed beautifully. It cleans up very easily and the surface is not only nicely non-stick, it also has held up to wear very well. If I had to go with out an appliance in the kitchen this would be the last one I would give up. My only minor complaint is that the manual was very unclear about whether or not to add water to the pan when using the skillet top. Buried on one of the pages, my suspision that we didn't need to use water was confirmed. Overall a great addition to any kitchen.

IDEAL Grill!! EASY TO CLEAN!! EASY TO USE!!!,

I just received my grill/skillet today... I have only had the occassion to use the grill tonight for dinner. I thought a new review was necessary to be fair to this product. We used it to make grilled vegetables and thinly sliced meat in a Korean style BBQ (yakiniku). The grill was PERFECT. The meat prepared extremely quickly and everything worked fine. To be honest, I had some doubts about this product after reading one of the reviews. It talked about the smoke rising as well as the "non-punched metal holes". What smoke?? There was a very thin mist that rose slightly (from the water we used underneath the grill tray). It was very hard to see. And our smoke detector, which literally goes off about 10% of the time, that I use the oven or stove DID NOT go off. (It continuously went off with our previous grill...) The holes were very well-punched...Actually the holes are probably about centimeter wide (two or three of our bean sprouts fell through, so we placed a small bit of aluminum foil on top of the unit and put the bean sprouts on top.) Furthermore, the unit does not omit any strange smell. (Maybe Our drip pan was useful. A fair amount of fat accumulated there. It was very easy to clean out-- a single swipe of the sponge took care of it. The surface is completely removable (since the grill/skillet can be changed out), and it can be taken off after use, immersed in water, and lightly scrubbed with a sponge (used one with a soft surface so as not to scratch). Clean up was EXTREMELY EASY! Furthermore, the manual has easy recipes that are easy to prepare and seem very good. You could make kabobs, baked chicken, fajita meat, grilled fish, etc... Cooking is quick, and will come in extremely handy after a long day at work...More over the unit can be set in the middle of the table and you can actually sit down and talk with others and enjoy your meal as some things still cook. No complaints about this product, design fantastic, easy and fun to use. Highest recommendations!!

Grill cooks great, Griddle needs thermostat.,

I bought this primarily for grill to replace my Forman which did not cook certain foods well and was difficult and messy to clean. I was attracted to the compact size and how everything stores easily within the unit - great for small kitches. The ready indicator is just a liquid crystal tag but it is accurate. When bright orange it is hot enought for grilling, and grill it does! The crowning test was a 4 pound London broil which my guests devoured. Amost as good as on the Weber! Unfortunately it doesn't work with the griddle and the control has no temperature markers - just low, medium and high. The instructions don't help here, simply telling you to set to the "desired temperature" which is hard since you don't know what it is. Once you do get it right, however, it cooks pancakes and french toast very evenely - much better than my old griddle that had hot and cold spots.Despite some weaknesses, the bottom line is the grill does a superb job and that's what I bought it for. So I'm very happy and would not look to another.

Love this indoor BBQ!,
This review is from: T-Fal 7881700 Electric 2 in 1 Multi Grill Store Away with Thermosignal (Kitchen)
I use this product almost everyday. I have made steak, grilled chicken, fish, cheeseburgers, and porkchops. You never need to use your oven/broiler or stovetop again to make these foods. Grilling on this BBQ is soooo much better! I love the presentation which makes the grill lines on meat just like an outdoor BBQ does. Also, the meat is very tender and juicy. You must remember to put water in the tray, this prevents from smoking and also helps with moisture for your meat. Do the same with your griddle. I also have used the breakfast griddle a bunch of times. The griddle fit about 6 french toasts plus srambled eggs. I also had made pancakes and was a little worried about the sides of the griddle not holding up b/c I had read a review by a customer that said the pancakes had to be poured in the middle of griddle b/c it went passed the sides. This was not true! I use this everyday and recommend this product to anyone who wants delicious food and to BBQ in the privacy of their own home.

"Cheesey"?No,Just A Good Grill,

This T-Fal Indoor Grill has been one of the most usable appliances I've ever bought. In fact,I rarely use my oven anymore. Before I got this grill,my steaks would turn out tough and/or overcooked, but now they come out perfectly every time.I've never had a problem with the grill not being hot enough when the "GRILL OK" indicator comes on.Sure,it might be a sticker, but it gets the job done and that's what's important. If you're on a low-carb diet or thinking about starting one, then this grill is a "must have".The only negative aspect of this particular grill is that the grill plate can be difficult to clean.I let it soak in hot soapy water for a few minutes before putting it into the dishwasher and that seems to help. The griddle plate works fine as well and helps save counter space so you don't have to buy a grill and a griddle.

This grill is very easy to use. Gives me the versitality of using a grill or griddle. Extremely easy to clean. I wouldn't trade this grill for any other on the market. The fact that one surface can be stored below the unit saves kitchen space. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a new grill.

Great Concept, but what about QUALITY?,

My friend had an earlier model of the Multi-Grill Store-Away while I was in college, and I loved it. The one thing I didn't notice (because his apartment smelled and the kitchen was pretty greasy) was the mess this thing caused.I had used my friend's grill so much, that I decided to buy myself a Store-Away shortly after I graduated. BIG mistake. Why? The grill looks awesome--makes my mouth water actually--and the interchangeable "oversized" grill and seemingly "oversized" (but not as big as it seems) griddle just make me want to indulge myself in eggs, bacon, hamburgers, and steaks for the rest of my life. BUT... the grill, upon turning it on, emits a curious odor--sort of like the smell in a room where the iron was left on too long by accident. Then you slap some bacon on the griddle... mmmm... bacon. NEXT DAY... mmmmm, bacon... NEXT WEEK... mmmm, bacon.... This is after using the griddle a single time (yup, it infuses the smell of bacon into your walls). The splattering grease everywhere and the short edges that are easy to drop eggs off of are less than favorable (you have to drop eggs near the middle of the griddle or else some yolk will get over the edge... whoops). Lets try burgers and wings. Who said "smoke-free"? Did someone say "smoke-free" in here? Huh... it certainly looks like smoke. It certainly SMELLS like smoke!. The grease from the burgers and wings, on its way through the bad-mold-fake-and-pock-marked grill slits, will sit on little edges of steel that weren't quite punched through on the grill when it went to "press" (as in production). Consequently, we have a water tray that becomes useless. Splatter, splatter, smoke, smoke. That's all I think of now when I look at my T-FAL (used twice) that I'm about to return. The thing is beautiful, which is why it's so hard to get rid of. I really wish it didn't smoke and splatter so much, though. I'll probably go for a George Foreman GR55 Five Star Grill (a little more money, but apparently worth it).

This grill/griddle performs very well indeed. There was no smoke produced when we cooked hamburgers or steaks. This morning's French toast was perfectly cooked on the griddle. It fits nicely in the same cupboard we had used to store the Betty Crocker grill replaced by this T-fal. The egg mixture cooked onto the griddle from the French toast washed off very easily with only hot water and a soft brush. The "on board" storage for the cook surface (grill or griddle) not in use is a great feature.
