I used this the first time to cook beer battered fish and shrimp. The oil heated up quickly stayed hot while frying. Cleanup was a breeze, the lid and basket come out and go right in the dishwasher. The heating element is below the tub not in it, which I think is a pluse. The only thing was the batter tends to stick to the basket, IU had to use a "fryer scoop" to lower the food in and then once it set drop it in the basket.

All in all well worth the price.

Bought my fryer in July, plastic clip on basket handle broke the moment I took it out of the box. As it was still usable, I decided not to return it. After several uses, found that the lid closes well initially but after 1-2 batches of cooking, the lid frequently pops open unexpectedly. This despite me wiping away any moisture/oil on the inner side of the lid and using new oil. I have to hold the lid down for the duration of the cooking. Otherwise the fryer cooks well.

I have used this frequently since I purchased it earlier this year. My only complaint is that the filters are very difficult to find. The ones linked to the Amazon page are not the ones that fit the Avante, so be careful or you may end up (like me) with useless filters that don't fit.

I've had this fryer for over eight months and am very pleased with it. The temperature setting is easy to use, as is the timer, both safely accessible away from the heat and steam. The window isn't all that useful, however, as it quickly steams up and forms an oily film over time, and periodically needs to be cleaned with lemon juice and a soft cloth (mainly for appearance sake). And the metal sides do become hot, so moving it even a little while cooking isn't recommended. The large teflon-coated resevoir removes easily for draining old oil. Cleanup is easy: just pop the resevoir, basket and even the internal part of the lid into the dishwasher. And the charcoal filter is easily replaceable after the recommended 80 uses or so. I love it!

I JUST RECIEVED MY FRYER,I MADE BACON FRENCH FRIES AND APPITIZERS,SO FAR SO GOOD, THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE IS THAT ALOT OF STEAM COMES OUT FROM THE TOP. SO YOU NEED TO USE IT UNDER A VENT OR BY A WINDOW SO THAT THE CABINTS DONT GET ALL WET. and you cant see through the window on top becAUSE OF THE STEAM. ALL IN ALL I LIKE THE FRYER AND I'LL KEEP IT.

As mentioned by others, I found the lid does not stay closed. After 2-3 batches, the lid would no longer remain closed. The latches are cheap plastic as is the basket handle assembly. I do not recommend this product for safety reasons. I am returning mine as soon as the oil cools and I can remove the oil and clean up the machine.

I ordered the T-Fal Avante Deep Fryer to replace my "Fry Daddy". So far, so good. I especially like the fact that you put the food in the basket, close the lid, and then lower the basket. No more popping grease! The timer allows you to do other things while your food is frying and -- so far -- everything has come out perfect. I would certainly recommend this fryer. The only drawback -- it takes up more counter space than the "Fry Daddy" but I think it's a small price to pay for the quality of the product.

I hate frying food in a pan on the top of the stove due to the mess it makes with grease every where. I use to bake my chicken and pork chops, but only half the time now with this deep fryer. I do have problems closing the lid after making 2 or 3 batches. Guess there is some swelling from the heat, but when I push down hard enough it is ok. It might frustrate some customers, but I can deal with it. The only real problem I had recently was that the latch on the lid when seperating the covers broke. It is not made really well. I called T-Fal customer service to purchase another lid and they voluntary sent me a new one free of charge. Their customer service is great. All in all I like this deep fryer.

I Love the way the Tefal deep fryer cooks, however, I am returning my second one due to a defective lid closure. The lid may close initially, but after a few uses it no longer stays closed. Since I have small children in my home, I will not be purchasing this one again.

The fryer is wonderful. The owner's manual leaves a little bit to be desired. The manual never stated how you know when the oil is at the temp you desire unless I overlooked it. The way you tell is the indicator light goes off. It's easy to clean and there is no oil spattering out with the closed lid design. It heats up rather quickly also. We have one at our primary and second homes.
