Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Keep your laptop connected while roaming about town and across the country with the T-Mobile webConnect Jet 3G Laptop USB Modem, which runs on T-Mobile's 3G cellular broadband network. Additionally, the webConnect Jet 3G offers unlimited access to the more than 10,000 T-Mobile HotSpot Network of Wi-Fi locations nationwide (data only; no voice).

Connect to the Internet with your laptop anytime on-the-go via T-Mobile’s nationwide 3G wireless broadband.
The USB stick modem offers plug-and-play convenience and has a handy connector that swivels into the stick for protection when not in use. It also doubles as a USB thumb drive, with a microSD memory card slot that's compatible with optional cards up to 8 GB in size.

You can choose between two monthly plans--one with a 200 MB broadband data limit per month for light users and one with a 5 GB monthly data limit for heavy users. Each has a $0.20 per MB overage charge once the limit has been exceeded; Wi-Fi does not count against monthly usage. Note that the webConnect 3G Laptop USB Modem does not provide Wi-Fi service, but rather works with the Wi-Fi on your computer to help you manage your connections.

The built-in Connection Manager software allows you to connect to Wi-Fi networks, cellular broadband, and VPN all from one screen, and it automatically connects to broadband connections when available. (The software self-loads onto the your laptop the first time the Laptop Stick is plugged in.) It's compatible with PCs running the Windows XP and Vista operating systems and Mac OS X 10.4 (Leopard) or higher.

The webConnect Jet 3G Laptop USB Modem comes with its own SIM card and dedicated webConnect rate plan. The rate plan cannot be added to existing data or voice plans, and the SIM cannot be swapped between handsets and the Laptop stick except to transfer phone SIM contacts to the Connection Manager.

T-Mobile Services

  • High-speed data connectivity via T-Mobile's 3G network: In addition to its quad-band GSM connectivity, the webConnect Jet 3G Laptop USB Modem is also compatible with T-Mobile's UMTS/HSDPA 3G network, which operates on the 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum. This phone is designed to automatically connect to the best available network (3G or GSM/GPRS/EDGE) to provide faster data speeds when accessing the Web. T-Mobile's 3G network now covers 170 million people in more than 235 cities nationwide and by the end of 2009 is planned to be available to approximately 200 million people across the U.S.

In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the via T-Mobile's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"). This high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy, January 28, 2011
This review is from: T-Mobile webConnect Jet 3G Laptop USB Modem (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
This is the biggest piece of junk. I had to reload the page to write this review 3 times(at least 2 times to enter it). T-Mobile service has been none existent. We have called 4 times for the same problem. The first 3 times we asked them to start a "trouble ticket", however they listed the calls a tech help. We have very slow service and are continuously disconnected. We have tried this stick on 2 different computers with the same result. We live 1/4 mile from the tower and in a semi-rural area. If I could do it all over again, I would have looked at more reviews of this piece of junk.

Do not buy the Jet Stick. Poor connection speed, poor unreliable connections, and poor customer service and tech. support.

2.0 out of 5 stars Advertising Gimmicks Fail, November 19, 2010
This review is from: T-Mobile webConnect Jet 3G Laptop USB Modem (T-Mobile) (Wireless Phone)
I purchased service and Jet 3G stick with a 2-week Free Trial given by the salesperson and found the connection as fast as the public library T-1 line, especially the first day. Connection slowed a bit and disconnected several times with each use for a week and then returned to its original quicker speed.

The 2-weeks Free Trial was a misnomer, because I was charged for it. Upon contact, the company informed me that they do not have 2-week Free Trials.

For my membership in a discount program, I was to receive Free Activation and a 10% discount on monthly billing. I initialed for these and received neither of them.

I asked for the insurance on the unit via Asurion, a good company in my opinion that I use already. I initialed for it and did not recieve it and now am told I cannot purchase it.

Watch out for TEXT MESSAGES at 20 cents each, received on your Jet 3G stick onscreen. I received 10 from people I do not know during the non-free "Free Trial" and blocked "all messages," allowing me to receive only the free alerts from T-Mobile.

The Jet 3G stick is good, but watch the service offered and anything you sign.

The T-Mobile® Jet 3G Laptop Stick broke after six months of usage. The T-Mobile Representative stated that the bundle that I currently have on my cellphone does not include this Laptop stick and I could purchase another one for $159.00 and he also stated that my current warranty does not include the damage of this stick. BE CAREFUL AND INFORMED BEFORE PURCHASING THIS ITEM.
