Where the 90's should've gone,
By
This review is from: T-Ride (Audio CD)
Infectious grooves, crazy arrangements, monstrous vocal production on par with anything Queen, Queensryche, Def Lep, or Winger ever pulled off, and some sterling rhythem work from a band that should've lead us all into a happier 90's with more creative blending of art-rock, funk, metal, progressive influences. Instead, we got a bunch of gimps from Seattle that never learned to bathe, let alone to play their guitars or sing. When this album came out, my band was doing our thing in Austin rehearsing and recording demos, and we were all heartbroken this album didn't take off, and even more disappointed never to hear from these cats again. In my view it's a damn crime they didn't do another album like this one. This is a one of a kind if you're into metal and don't expect galloping triplet Iron Maiden riffs or chunking metal head bar chord riffs. Take it from a guitarist, this album just stone cold rocks.

Cool Album!,
By
This review is from: T-Ride (Audio CD)
I would have never checked this album out if it weren't for Martin Popoff's book on Heavy Metal. This album is an unknown gem. The production is great and most of the songs have cool grooves and good vocals. I dig Backdoor Romeo (great lyrics), You and Your Friend (should have been huge), Bad Girls and Angels (cool vocals), Fire It Up (great chorus), and Bone Down. Despite the fact that Jeff Tyson was a student of Joe Satriani he does not overplay. Instead he focuses on the songs and plays some great rhythm guitar. Whether you like rock, funk, or dance music this is one of those albums that I think many people can get into. Four and a half stars! Check it out if you can find it!

These guys got no respect,

This review is from: T-ride (MP3 Download)
When I saw this album in the 2 for 99 cents used CD bin in the mid 90's I took a chance and bought it. I found out, to my great surprise, that it was worth much more than the record store was charging. Blazing guitars, screaming vocals, whomping beats and fantastic harmonies hit my ears like a two-ton anvil. This was a band that did not get a decent break and faded away into oblivion. With songs like my favorites "Hit Squad", "Heroes & Villains" and my very favorite "Bone Down" these guys should have stuck around much longer than they did. They deserved to.

Avant Garde Visceral Rock,

This review is from: T-Ride (Audio CD)
The whole album is electricly crisp, lyrically soulful and sprinkled throughout with a unique and spicey blues-funk rythym: it's a taste of hard-rock bliss.T-Ride's sound avoids the souless corporate contract rock that eventually become the death of every 80s hair band. The album maintains the fun raucous frenetic rock we all loved, and it adds a unique blues interpretation. It comes complete with complex vocal arrangements, rapid harmonics, smooth bridges and interesting lyrics. "Backdoor Romeo" is an especially entertaining track with a hilarious storyline and a rapid fire speed blues rock sound. Everytime I hear it, I hear some nuance I missed before. "She said: I catch you sucking someone else's dirty lips - you're dead for sure!!!" ...Yea, I had a girlfriend like this once. Scary... Bottom line: if you want solid soulful rock coupled with complex chords and beautifully refined studio sound - you will love this album. It's a damn shame we have no rock like this today.

Obscure Metal Worth Your Time,
By
This review is from: T-Ride (Audio CD)
As with everyone else here I too was impressed w/Jeff's guitar work. I found the mix a little off for my taste(a little more audio on the guitar would have been nice. Sounds as if the drummer mixed it. He did. And I never thought I would say that as a drummer myself. But a little less drums and a little more guitar would have warranted 5 stars. Although the Tribal Sound w/ Jeff's licks is a cool mix. I still have my original from early '92, and listen to it frequently, and now have my 15 year old son into it. Buy it,listen to it,enjoy it

Great album from a virtually unknown band,

I first heard this album playing in a small record store in central Kentucky that specialized in more obscure groups. I bought the CD and was instantly hooked. If you are a fan of Guns N Roses, Def Leppard, Bad English, or any of the late 80's/early 90's metal bands, get a copy of this album. The music is great, the lyrics catchy, and every song is a keeper. I did not get a feeling that these guys were trying to create musice to please the record companies, which may explain why they never hit it big. This is a must have for those who enjoy the bands that live their lives in the underappreciated background. For those looking for other obscure groups, look out for the Mojo Filter Kings and Hand Honey.

Ahead of it's time,

I'm so pleased to see other people digging this CD. My story of this band starts in '91. I was in a band and my singer used to collect guitar mags like crazy. He showed me this article on a student of Joe Satriani. The one quote that really stuck out was that Joe said that after a long day of giving lessons, he always looked forward to his lessons with Jeff Tyson (now spells it Geoff). Claiming it was like a breath of fresh air. This intrigued me knowing Joes' talents, so I checked out the music of his band T-Ride. And all I can say is I found a CD that I will probably listen to off and on for the rest of my life. I still have the CD I bought in '92. This music was so far ahead of it's time. And the fact that they made it themselves was amazing as well. To all who loves this CD as I do, spread it like wild fire. This CD deserves to be heard. I would also love to see it used well in a cool "david fincher" type of movie.

Definitely One Of The Best CD's Ever,

Such a waste that this band only did one album- however it DID take them 7 years to write and record- lol- so that counts for something. I did happen across Jeff Tyson's website and he has a new band- albeit a BIG departure from T-Ride. WWW.GeoffTyson.Com. Check it out.

Musical Masterminds...,
This review is from: T-Ride (Audio CD)
So many have said it...but it bears repeating...these guys were WAY ahead of their time...SHEER GENIUS sums it up. Only those of us highly intelligent folks ever realized it and could truly appreciate the talent here though...the moron-masses missed this in the melee of thier grungy, stinking teen spirit (did I just say that? :) These guys displayed true musical virtuoso--it's a tragedy that the rest of the world missed it. GET THIS CD AND HOLD ONTO IT WITH YOUR VERY LIVES!!!Steph

Def Leppard + Faith No More,

That's how somebody somewhere (was it Metal Hammer back in the day when Metal Hammer was METAL Hammer?) described this, and, while it's a hawk-eyed observation, even that comparison to great music such as Leps and FNM doesn't do justice to T-Ride, because they have their own very special thing going. Through the wonder of internet, I became acquainted with this outstanding but toooo short-lived band. By the GODS, what a hugely original AND great album! Tight to the extreme, well-crafted songs, full of brilliant melodies...and the lyrics are something every aspiring songwriter should take a look at. I beg the guys from T-Ride to make a COMEBACK! And everyone with even the slightest interest for great music to check this orchestra out. And now, to my endless joy, I see that Amazon actually HAS it in stock! For a change! Galáctico. Dad......DAD!!!! Ahem, the crrrredit card, thank you very much....
