2.0 out of 5 stars Know What You're Reading to Your Kids
This book was very popular among child development experts in the early 1970s, and I remember our teacher reading it to us in class (we were also read T.A. for Kids). I remember clearly the "warm fuzzies" and the "cold pricklies," gifts the characters could give to one another in order to make them have good or bad feelings. There was a witch who spread rumors that warm...

This book must have recently been reprinted. A while ago, when my tattered one fell apart and I tried to replace it, none were available. So now that they are - grab one fast, before they run out!

A very readable, sensible, fairytale... sweet pictures, (you really can read them to toddlers) which clear explanations of Transational Analysis, but more to the point, it describes feelings and behaviours to small children (and their parents) in a way that makes sense.

It's very good about describing negative attention getting and why people do it, and what we can do about that, and also about feelings in general. Mine literally wore out, and I'm very pleased to see it in reprint.

cheers, amf001

I was raised with this book and it helped me to have a sense of why other people did the things they do. I intend to get a copy for my daughter when she is old enough to appreciate it. It is very simply written with engaging illustrations to make a child feel that the rest of the world of people is not quite so incomprehensible.

I bought this for my two grandsons. I have raised my three children on this book and now have bought a new one for my daughter to raise her children by. It has great meaning and my three children even thought they are grown, still talk about warm fussy

5.0 out of 5 stars Children will enjoy this, and learn to better get in touch with and express their feelings., November 15, 2009
This review is from: T.A. for Tots: And Other Prinzes (Transactional Analysis for Everybody Series) (Paperback)
My mother found a 1974 edition of this book and sent it to me becaues I wanted to read it to my daughter. I thought there were no more in print. I'm delighted to see that there is a 1991 version available.

This book is a tremendous gift to children. Don't miss it if your children are still from toddler ages up to 7 or 8 years old.

What I like is that it teaches children that even though they went from being completely taken care of as a baby to being told to control themselves at older ages, that they still are that same original being who has a right to have feelings and needs, but now, with more thinking abilities, are encouraged to know and express their feelings in a productive way.

The illustrations are fantastic.

The book was clearly written out of care and love for children.

I remember clearly the "warm fuzzies" and the "cold pricklies," gifts the characters could give to one another in order to make them have good or bad feelings. There was a witch who spread rumors that warm fuzzies were in limited supply and pushed the use of cold pricklies instead. As I recall, the illustrations were cute.

T.A. for Tots is one of the many popularizations of Transactional Anylisis, psychiatrist Eric Berne's theories of personality and healthy vs. unhealthy interactions, which he developed during the late 1950s.

While some of Berne's language and ideas have been integrated into mainstream psychology, not all of them have. Today, pop T.A. is often seen as a gross oversimplification to the point of not really being very helpful. Furthermore, Transactional Analysis has been abused in pyramid schemes and used by individuals later accused of attempting cult-like mind control on their clients.

Of course, you may still decide this is a good book for your children. But since it is presenting a very specific worldview, it pays to know the background so you can consciously decide how much weight you want to give the ideas in it before you start reading it at bedtime - knowledge beats ignorance any day of the week!
