TWOC - to steal an automobile for joyriding, August 18, 2011
This review is from: T.W.O.C. (Hardcover)
I find it hard to believe that I'm the first person to review this book. It's a great story.
Our protagonist, Matt, is a very messed up teen who learned how to twoc (steal) cars from his older brother, Jake. Matt has to see a probation officer regularly and the story, as it unfolds, lets us know why. We meet some other messed up characters, very colorful. Joyce has done a wonderful job with character development in "TWOC." I feel like I would know any of these people if I met them on the street and had the chance to talk to them for two minutes.
So - expensive cars, ghostly appearances, budget burner camp and all kinds of "fun" activities there, girls and teenage boys thinking about girls, discovering the meaning of friendship - and forgiveness.
The story takes place in England and Joyce puts a helpful glossary of British terms at the back of the book. It's amazing how the English language can vary.
This book is a good read, not just for young people.
NOTE: some language, violence, teen drinking and smoking.
