Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
[[VIDEOID:mo3AXPAY16EO7DK]]The video shows me walking you through the setup of the device, the disassembly and reassembly of the device (for cleaning), and then actually using the device. I show how to cook rice in it based on the instructions for a single serving of rice (1 US-CUP (8oz)). And I show how that looks when it is done cooking in this device. One thing I forgot to mention in the video, I didn't rinse the rice in the demo (because that would have added unnecessary time to the video), but the cooked rice looks the same whether you rinse it or not. It is the heating elements in the cooker that do it, not whether the rice is rinsed or not.

The deal breaker for me, is the plastic used IN the device. I am not HAPPY about plastic being used on the outside of a food-preparation device, but that isn't a deal-breaker for me. But if plastic is used INSIDE a food-preparation device, I'm out. I don't drink bottled water for the same reason, plastic leeches into the water, that is a proven scientific fact. (How much harm that does to people drinking it, is still being debated). But, for me, plastic INSIDE a device that heats and prepares food (instead of ceramic, or metal, or silicone) is a deal-breaker. Non-stick ("Teflon"(tm))-type materials used in a food-preparation is also not something I want (that kind of material also can flake and leech into food).

So, yes, the device does what it says it does, and I would be rating it 4 or 5 stars if it wasn't for the materials they used in it. But, because they did use plastic INSIDE a device that prepares food, I cannot rate this higher than 3 stars. If plastic inside a food-preparation device doesn't bother you like it does me, then bump my rating up in your mind a star or 2.

3 stars.

we like the ease of use to make both rice, vegetables and steamed fish. You can vary the amount of rice you need from 2-3 servings to as many as 8 or more.
The steamed fish with scallions and red pepper we did recently game out great for the first time we tried this recipe.
We are looking forward to make more healthy recipes using out T-Fal rice steamer./ cooker.

The controls are very easy to use. There is a slide button, one side is rice/steaming, the other side is the slow cooker. Then on/off. There aren't timers or a lot of controls to set. This is also limiting, as the slow cooker only cooks on low. For me that isn't a problem, I find the high settings usually boil instead of slow cook on newer models of slow cookers.

At first the size seemed small, even though it has a 20 cup of rice capacity. I am used to my huge Breville oval slow cooker. However, I easily fit 3 lbs of beef and roughly 5-6 cups of veggies and had no issues. All day it simmered along and made a great stew using the slow cooker mode.

The rice worked fine, I didn't have any uneven cooking or scorching. The steamer is a plastic insert that sits on top and steams. It functions fine, again, you need to watch your own times, although with the rice function is does automatically switch to warm when done cooking the rice..

One feature that never occurred to me to love but I do, is the lid. On regular slow cookers the lid comes off and is always drippy and steamy all over, the lid on the t-fal pops up and the steamy liquid just drips back into the stew, plus I don't have to figure out where to put a hot drippy lid.

Pros-

easy to use

easy to clean (non stick insert, inner lid pops out)

large capacity

performs multiple functions well so for someone with limited space this would be a good option

Cons-

Lights showing machine being on are small and somewhat dim. I had to cup with my hand to see if the light was on

No timer

non retractable cord

The t-fal is affordable, functional, and would be a good addition to almost any kitchen

If you're looking for a basic rice cooker and a basic slow cooker and a steamer combined into one unit, this T-fal rice cooker will do the trick. It's well-built, with a lid that slowly rises open, a sturdy handle, and a non-stick pot with some weight that looks better than the one in my other rice cooker.

The key word is "basic." There is no timer function, no delayed start, no automatic shut-off, no high heat, no on/off button, no programmability whatsoever. There's cook and keep warm. The slow cooker cooks at low heat - low enough to heat but not high enough for a slow simmer.

For a basic unit, the T-fal performs well. The rice came out perfect, all the way to the bottom of the pot. My slow cooked meatballs were hot enough to enjoy. The cooker works well, just not a lot of options for slow cooking or rice cooking, but the all-in-one function just might make up for that.

I have not had a chance to use this item for anything other than its rice-cooking ability. As a rice cooker, I love it. It was easy to use, and the rice came out perfect. Sometimes when I use a rice cooker the rice is too dry, but that did not happen with this one.

I love that this product is also a slow cooker, and I need to find a time to try that function out. It's awesome that I was able to replace two appliances with this one.
