Well written, but a bit of false advertising?, April 25, 2007
Maybe I should wait until I finish the book, but I am very disappointed at one thing. The cover of the book says "High-Performance Techniques", but 80 to 90 percent of the book is on the weapon itself and the gear you can put on it. I wanted a book on shooting the AR. I want tactics and techniques. I was disappointed. Maybe I should have bought the author's other books on tactical marksmanship. I believe that if you are going to say the book is about techniques, then maybe at least 50% of the book should be techniques and tactics? The book does cover a lot of the gear that can make your AR a more effective platform, and I am learning a bit, but it's not what I wanted to learn. The book should have been titled "The complete AR-15, making your rifle work for you." It may seem nitpicky, but come on now, lets be honest when we sell a book. I carry an M-4 on a daily basis for a federal law enforcement agency. Although its nice to know all of the parts I can add to an AR to make it effective, I have to use a stock M-4 for work. I don't have the option of adding parts to the rifle. I need to learn how to shoot it and operate with it in a field environment. I need tactics and techniques. This book provides a lot, but it is a bit low on the tactics and techniques. I was going to give it 3 starts, but the book is not that bad, it is just not what it says it is. Maybe I will change my mind after reading it, but I don't think so.

The Tactical AR-15, September 6, 2008
Some good information but a lot of fluff. A lot of marketing for the authors products. Discussed some topics that could have used pictures to help to understand what they were taking about. Many photos did not have very good explainations. i.e. picture of 5 to 10 items that are not well labeled. The title suggested "techniques for police, military and practical shooters", the last two or three chapters had some techniques. Much of the book was history of equipment/accessories and equipment/accessory choices.

Clear, concise and complete, March 6, 2007
This book serves all, from the new shooter to the high-intermediate level operator. It covers all the configurations of the AR-15, accessories and critical modifications. Important chapters on sighting options, ammunition selection, marksmanship fundamentals, lights and lasers, suppressors, and mental focus in tactical situations are included. Well illustrated with bright, clear, detailed photographs. This is a great addition to any shooter's library.
