I am a sailer and kayaker and needed a watch that was highly water resistant in addition to just cool looking. This watch excels at both. I had seen the watch in a jewelry store so had no surprises when it arrived from Amazon. But here are some observations that might interest prospective buyers of this watch:

1. Great looking -- it's enjoyable to check the time with this watch! The scored face catches the light in an interesting way and it is ever-changing in appearance. Very easy to read at night and dim light.
2. I bought the quartz version -- more accurate and less expensive but looks virtually identical to the automatic and is the same weight and size. If you are considering the automatic, it's worth thinking about the fact that you will constantly be resetting the watch. Resetting a water resistant watch like this is a bit of a pain. The reason they resist water is because they are sealed and undoing and redoing that seal each time you reset the watch over many times will probably compromise the water resistance. I have had the quartz watch about 2 weeks and have not had to adjust the time at all. That would not be the case with the automatic. Personally, going to a jewelry store for a battery every couple of years is preferable to having an inaccurate watch that I have to reset dozens of times each year.
3. I highly recommend the rubber watchband. Besides making the watch more distinctive looking, it has a very reliable clasp and is more comfortable than the steel one (which I had on a the previous version of the Aquaracer).
4. The only design feature I'm not crazy about is the magnified date. The previous Aquaracer did not have this and was much easier to read! The magnifier catches the light and obscures the numerals sometimes. But that's a very small negative.
5. The bezel is easy to rotate. I don't dive but use it to time things in the oven, etc. My old Aquaracer bezel was harder to spin.
6. The winding post is slightly oversized which makes it easy to grip. This insures a good seal after you have adjusted the time.
6. For a street price of just over $1K, you will not find a more accurate and stylish watch.

Yesterday my Tag Heuer Aquaracer 500 M arrived, and I am quite pleased. I ordered it from Amazon, and it was shipped the next day from Jomashop in New York State. As a frequent customer of Amazon, I have come to expect great prices, great service and selection, with top notch customer service. This transaction was no exception. It arrived in a very large cool box, it contained all necessary papers, and tags. The manual has it's own leather pouch, very nice! I'm a real fan of Tag Heuer watches, and I like to do the research before making a purchase. Since I own an automatic Aquaracer, a Quartz Chronograph Grande Date, and a Formula One Chronograph, I wanted an Aquaracer Tag with a Rubber Strap, so I would have to worry about scratches on the band.
I really liked the bold look of the 500 M, it has a certain classic look to it. So, I visited my local dealer just to get an up close comparison of the Automatic and the Quartz watch before ordering from Amazon. I really love the fine engineering that goes into the Automatic, and would have quickly chosen it if were going to be my primary watch. However, I chose the Quartz version since this was to be a casual watch, and I couldn't justify the higher cost of the automatic for a "weekend watch", plus, having to always reset the day and time after a few days on the shelf.
Let me tell you, the 500 M is an incredible watch, and I absolutely love it. It's 43 MM, solid and heavy, well built, with a bold rugged design, yet a very subtle understated elegance. Form follows function. Great lines, quality build, beautiful watch. In my opinion, the Aquaracer 500 M series is certainly destined to become another Tag Heuer Classic watch.
